Smokey visits Daryl's House

Thanks to Cat at WTF.

This is just wonderful. Yeah, their voices aren't what they were but when talking about legends in music, I don't really give a shit. These guys already earned their stripes.

The Sara Smile segment is especially good as Smokey talks about writng music and people covering his tunes.
The way they can rearrange these songs to make them fresh every show is just so amazing.

That's a great show. I've seen a few of those episodes.

That whole show was great. Stevew2's been holding out on us though. Wasn't that him playing keys on "Being With You"? :)

I checked the 'store' but didn't see these songs available.

Getting a chance to watch it now. They sound great. Smokey hasn't lost a damn thing. Excellent musicians, all of them.

Daryl's voice is still very much there... it sounds a little "older" but as far as fatigue and loss of range, I don't hear much there... particularly in the fatigue deptmt. Yeah they all lose a little range as they get older...

Awesome stuff.

That was FANTASTIC! I don't get where you think they've lost a lot, GB....yes, the first song or two you might have a quibble over a bit if you want to compare someone to when they were younger but after that, once they got warmed up, I think they sounded as good as ever. Once Smokey got going he had that awesome smooth soul cookin'.

Absolutely LOVE Daryl's House! Best thing on the net. It would be so cool to get to sit in the room but this is taking you there like you are. Not only fantastic music and seeing the folks as people hanging out and breaking bread together but also get to listen in on some reminiscing. Don't know if Daryl thought about the way this would be entertaining but would also become historical documentation...maybe he did have that in mind too....but it's a GREAT concept!

Anyway... I have been working on a painting almost all day and into the night.....got inspired for a piece and got into a " zone" .....so it was good to take a break and enjoy something like this. Thanks for posting it. 8)

The point I was making was even though they've lost some range (You guys have to admit that much) when you're as good as they are it doesn't matter. You adapt and go with the flow and they have done that splendidly. Daryl's voice is still very strong even if he does crack on those high notes now. Amazing that he is 62 and Smokey is 69.

Well sure, there of course is some change with time but I don't hear cracking on all the high notes. You are right, they are still awesome talents and I love hearing these episodes. Same with Perry...he wouldn't sound like he did when he was younger, of course, but I think he would still have an incredible vocal sound and retain all the vocal skills to do well. Sometimes a bit of roughness that comes into a voice sounds great too.....not saying Perry's would be rough...don't know.....but just saying some of the nuances of change in a voice can be a good thing. A bit of gravel sound even in some voices can be a good thing....like you said...when they adapt well to changes and make it work.

I just noticed you added their ages. I didn't realize Daryl is 62 now. He looks great! I think people should continue to do what they love to do...what they have a passion for...until they die. He and Smokey are singers...musicians.....and like Daryl said in that episode.... music is who he is, what he's about....so he should just have fun and not worry about critiques any more and do it as long as he can and I'm sure he will.

No, he's in a few of the episodes. They don't look all that happy to see each other though.

To the contrary, check out H&O Live at the Troubador 08... they're in awesome form. Some great arrangements all over there too.
