Yes it is. I lurked for quite awhile before I even threw my hat into the ring and became a member. Somebody here had mentioned the Departure show DVD torrent that I had put up on the Jamtothis site and that's when I finally decided to join.

If it's still available, could you shoot me a PM?

I think Journey handles their hits perfectly. They sound like they do on the radio and CD...BUT...they re-tool and add-on to give them some energy and updating without making them unrecognizable. Its a perfect balance. To play it EXACTLY like the CD is worthless, and to alter it completely is annoying (yeah...I'm talking to you Sting).

Its a fine line and Journey walks it well.

I'd like to see them take that extended part of Sep Ways and turn that into a full song on the next album?

Wow, I find it interesting that a band whose "bread & butter" is touring would tell folks to stay home if they don't like what they're playing... :?

I don't personally have a problem with the solos, in fact I would rather hear something different than Friga's exact same piano solo at each and every show, but it's pretty ballsy to basically tell people to STFU and just listen to the record, ESPECIALLY when they make their living playing the same songs every night. Kinda hypocritical, IMO.

She was getting her visa renewed, so maybe she'll be making her way up here soon. However, if they ever get that concert set up, we most definitely will need to make a road trip!

Just a quik thot here. It's not necessarily all the solos & riffs, it's all that stuff coming from the same guy in the same way. Don't get me wrong....loved NS for 30 yrs. BUT, if there was another prominant player in the band besides Neal & Jon, over and over and over, then I think all the jamming would be more appealing to the casual fan. I just think that while they're back successful and all that, they could be on the verge of overkill. And even though their gigs are once again sold out, the sets are approaching mundane - not by extending songs, but by same players going through the same motions. I dunno. I just imagine that a little new life-blood on stage - other than AP - could help.

I am a very old schooled musician weened on Zep , Hendrix , Who, Cream and blues. To stay interested I need to stretch and take some chances live. It's called playing for real
Thanks for hearing me out.

Totally agree with Neal. I saw them last Sunday night in Indy and they were great as always. My wife hates live performances, and I love them, so she gets to stay home and miss out on great concerts and listen to her cd's.

I'd rather have Schon's solo's short and memorable than long and rambling. His jamming appears without purpose to me and over-indulgent.

Not a musician but no one has to be to know what they like about what they hear. You are saying that I must be a musician before I can really appreciate "jamming?"That really narrows down the personage of people who really appreciate jamming.

No, that's not what I was saying at all. I have plenty of friends who enjoy jam bands or progressive bands with long instrumental sections that can't play a note on anything. But, I find it does make a difference as far as people's CHANCES of enjoying something like that.

I do enjoy jam bands and musicians who jam and always have, especially great drummers. I just finds that some who try, are just a bore. I love what Schon did for the Journey hits and it's part of what makes them Journey hits and Schons work is so instantly identifiable. Can't get into his jamming tho. It's just my opinion is all.

And that's perfectly fine on your part... like I said originally, I wasn't trying to condescend. I love guitar playing and jamming in general, as I'm an amateur player myself, but I for one can't stand The Grateful Dead, for instance.

What I really love is that Neal is blogging with his fans this year. He has kept it up all year long during the tour, which I so appreciate as a fan. He came back after receiving all the comments and thanked his fans for their support and said he would continue freshening up the classics.

I'm right with you on your post, RVR.

And, also, regarding having Journey still around, something could happen, like illness or such, and no more Journey. So I definitely appreciate the fact they're still touring with a lot of energy in the shows.

+100,000

Any tour could be the last tour, without warning. I'm here to soak up anything we can get. I can't imagine what it was like from 1986-1996. The last 11 years have been great, and if they stop touring again it really will be for good.

I didn't go to the show this year because of finances and just starting a new job. But every time I've been to a show and taken a different friend with me, those friends have been FLOORED by Neal's playing. It's not because of hearing the solos played in the same way as on the records, either. It's because of the changes they've made to those songs live. Part of the attraction of a Journey show is witnessing one of the greatest guitar players do his thing.

Yes it is. I lurked for quite awhile before I even threw my hat into the ring and became a member. Somebody here had mentioned the Departure show DVD torrent that I had put up on the Jamtothis site and that's when I finally decided to join.

If it's still available, could you shoot me a PM?

And I disagree vehemently.

Yep I gotta disagree too! I sat in 3rd row last year right smack in front of him and was completely in awe watching him play that guitar and I am a girl!!!

If you want concerts to sound like the album, go buy a Michael Jackson concert DVD. He'll even lip synch for ya!
