Japanese Revelation Release

Postby The Sushi Hunter » Wed Sep 23, 2009 2:01 pm

I have questions about Journey's Revelation album that was released in Japan. During my October/November trip (I think during that particular trip), I had purchased it over there. I've not even opened it up to listen to it. But my questions are 1) If Wal-Mart financed the recordings or whatever they were involved with doing in regards to this album, how did the album get over to Japan for production? 2) I've been recently told that the Japanese release sounds so much better then the Wal-Mart release does. Is that true? And if so, how was it that the Japanese were able to make a better recording from the masters then what was done in the U.S.?

The band financed/recorded it themselves and made a deal with WalMart for distribution for North America. They owned the masters for releasing it in other territories such as Japan and Europe.

I have all 3 versions of the album and don't recall thinking any differently about the mastering quality/sound.

Thanks for the information Andrew. I met someone in Japan on line who doesn't know that I have the Japanese release and they were asking me if I wanted to purchase one from them new. They were telling me that the Japanese release sounded way better then the U.S. release. Now I know they were just saying that thinking it would entice me to purchase it from them. I got one already, but since they mentioned that there was a audio difference, I was just curious if that was true or not. Thanks.

Since apparently you've opened up and listened to the Japanese release, what else comes with that unit besides the cds? I was thinking that there is some other literature a part of it that wasn't included in the U.S. release.

Oh yeah, I remember finding that youtube clip and posting it on here during one of my trips to Japan. I remember the flying penguins
And I'm a pussy because I wouldn't be climbing up on any of those rocks! The song seems to start out sounding like Foreigner's "That Was Yesterday" IMO but it's still a really great tune by Journey I think. I'll bet they got a whole slew of tunes that they've not released yet. I wouldn't be surprised if they will release as a bonus track "Send Her My Love" on their next album release in Japan.
