I just got back from listening to Journey's Dream After Dream album (again), and I must say-- even though this album has probably been discussed before-- that this is without a doubt the most beautiful piece of music Journey has ever created. I'm not even kidding. The dreamy, airy, haunting atmosphere it creates; the beautiful use of symphonics/orchestra instruments... the mostly-restrained yet majestic, beautiful vocals... the gorgeous guitar-work... it's all absolutely perfect.
And yet, despite the beautiful music that resides within this album, I am not even sure if it is readily available in the United States-- and of course, casual fans probably don't even know it exists. Dream After Dream remains a small, odd footnote in Journey's catalogue where in a perfect world it should have been an album upon which their later albums should have been built off of. And that, my friends, is a crime.
In layman's terms... this album kicks way too much ass to be ignored, and while I still enjoy their mainstream material (Frontiers-- with the original, rejected tracklist-- is my second-favorite Journey album, and Infinity, which still has one foot in more symphonic territory, is tied with it), I wish Journey created more albums similar to it. Because GODDAMN what an album.
ok, worship over. Have at it.
