I remember Journey announcing him as the new drummer for the ROR tour.
Anyone know why the switched to Mike Baird?

Sounds like this might have been Neal's choice and we all know who was running the show at that time.

From Anur's MySpace profile.

"As Neal Schon of JOURNEY said of Atma in ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE ”ATMA IS THE JIMI HENDRIX OF DRUMS, THE GUITAR PLAYERS DRUMMER”. Atma’s guitar virtuoso sideman credits also include commercial guitar heroes JOE SATRIANI and DOUG DOPPLER"

Yeah... Steev-O seemed to be el presidente of the band at the time. Wonder how that happened...? Just one dominant personality in a bunch of more passive ones? Or was there more to it than that? Seems a bit funky to me. :?

Also, I have no idea why the hell Steev-O would pick Mike Baird at all. He was like the Dave Holland of Journey (Dave Holland was the blandest drummer for Judas Priest... ever. Also, he turned out to be a major creep later on. Go figure). Just bland and sorta crappy. Wasn't Steev a drummer? Wouldn't he have known better?? This is all making no logical sense to me. BLARGH :x

Omar Hakim was also considered and they went with MICHAEL BAIRD????

I've never understood that decision.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Haha- NO. At the time, Smith was the BEST drummer out there. I couldn't believe when Perry wanted to drop him. I figured there must've been something else...
