Not only that, but what an opportunity to improve other things......youth, background vocals, writing. It would hurt to lose another "original member" but it could really inject some new talent.

You are both probably, to some degree, right. But, I've said it before and I'll say it again, these guys are loyal. They hung on to Perry too long, Augeri too long and I suspect they'll do the same with Ross. And I respect that.

So, did Valory blow his initial fortune on snow or was he just bad with money? Are Cain, Smitty and Augeri the only members of group, past and present who didn't have substance abuse problems?

Jesus Christ, look how bloated I am from drinking those 32 beers. Good God almighty.

Dickno, Ross was telling the truth and you know it. Why deny it????

I think this is bullshit. I have partied with Dean and know of about 50 others that have as well, and I have never heard the use of cocaine by Dean brought up. Not ever once. This thread is heading for disaster. Let's ease up, man. It's jive to be making accusations and talking about this sort of stuff. Stick with personal insults.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, now. Now you're messing with the formula..er the legacy sound of Journey. The whole thing is predicated on outstanding vocals, Neal's guitar, Cains keys & songwriting...and the bass player essentially being MIA. You just can't go throwing a a competent bass player in there...it wouldn't be Journey.

Nobody complained about Ross's work on Escape or Frontiers. He was always solid. I understand that Neal now writes the bass lines. Why, I don't know, but I know Ross has a good body of work out there.

Doesn't mean it's good. Hell, RobbieG could make an album of gay sex grunts and moans and have it out tomorrow and it would be the same thing as Valory. No one is buying either release.

I'd rather finger bang Phyliss four times in a row, sweating profusely, wearing a gas mask on a hot Summer night on the front porch than listen to Ross Valory sing, let alone play the bass guitar.

But why did they replace Ross with Randy Jackson in After the Fall? -- a few other songs on Frontiers, too, I think (this from Neal). Never heard anything definitive about why.

Brush up on Journey 101!

Perry fired both Smith and Valory. It wasn't the sound Steve wanted.

PS- screw you RobbieG.

Deano, are you drinking!? I will have you know I am well versed in Journey history....own tons of old interviews.
SP fired Smitty and Ross for ROR. After the Fall is for the Frontiers album, when Ross was still an integral member of the band.

Yes, Journey got Randy to play bass for After the Fall...the old-timers (monker, J28, Froy, TNC) can verify this.

OK, I'm confused... Ross is in the ATF video. Are you saying that RJ recorded the song with them, but Ross is in the video? :?

DP, Journey hired Randy Jackson as a session bass player for the Frontiers album…I assume, to add more bass strength on the songs. I also heard he was the guy laying down the bass lines for ATF, not Ross. Of course, the video is going to have Ross as he is a member of the band.

Taking it further… I have wondered how Ross seemed to do fine in their Frontiers tour concerts playing all their songs from that album. Maybe, there’s extra background (recorded) music help??? Like, I guess, lthe layered background vox expert posters here talk about from time to time.
