Postby SF-Dano » Thu Sep 23, 2010 9:01 am

A friend came across this new tune "City Lights" and i figured I would share. Lights is being sampled here............. not bad. Not really my style, but not bad.

Not a fan of this kind of music either, but I agree...it's not bad at all. Forwarded link to my kids. Will be interesting to see if they like it.

It's certainly different. Not crazy about it but it's not that bad either.

I'm not a big fan of this kinda music either, but I kinda dig this. I like that it's not a remake. "Lights" is sampled with good taste here and it pays homage to the original song.

I really hope she got proper licensing for the song sample or her career is going to potentially start off on a bad note.

Biz Markie had a top selling album pulled off the shelf because of his unauthorized sampling of Alone Again (Naturally) by Gilbert O'Sullivan. That was actually a landmark case at the time and set the tone for what is required legally when you sample from another artist's music.

O'Sullivan, who had sort of faded into obscurity before that time got huge bank because of it, while Markie saw his career suffer tremendously.

Perry's vocal mix sounds good, but take that away and it's just another mediocre, studio produced teen bop song. I'll stick with the real deal.

I expected to hate this once I clicked on the link, but was amazed by it. I like it a lot.
