Anyone like Evolution?

Postby Infinity Vocalist 2010 » Thu Oct 21, 2010 11:44 am

Anyone here a fan of the tribute band Evolution?... And I am talking about the one Hugo used to front, not the other one. Just curious, because I know alot of people here are fans of Jeremey and Frontiers, as am I.

Hugo, the solo artist (or ex-Valentine/Open Skyz member)....yes, very much

Hugo, the tribute band singer....not much at all. Way too thin a voice to do a credible version of those songs for me. That said, I'm not into the tribute thing at all, so I may be a tad biased.

wholeheartedly agree. Hugo is an ace in his own hole, but with Evolution he's too thin. That's why I like John Murphy, their new guy. He's got a great voice, it's unique, and he can sing full-on, give it 110% and it just WORKS.

I'm friends with him on Facebook, and we talk every so often. He's pretty humble, and if you didn't already know, he recently sang with The Gregg Rolie Band on some Journey tunes.

Hugo or John Murphy? I know Kevin Chalfant has done Journey with Gregg Rolie on occasion.

I loved Evolution with Hugo in it just because he has every nuance of Perry's down pat. I love Hugo as a soloist and I think he shines on his own stuff, of which I own a couple of his albums. He's awesome.
"as long as they have to carry DSB as their banner, it looks like Perry will be right there with them as an overseer, ready to wield his veto power on all things Classic Journey." As quoted by Don on 12/7/2010

Evolution is my least favorite Journey album, ranked just above Red13. Outside of LTS and JTSW, I pretty much dislike it.

Evolution (the album) is in my top 3 for all time favorite Journey albums... the other two? Infinity and Departure.

I find it solid enough, but nothing really standing out other than those two songs--and LTS is a bit overrated. Too Late is nice also. Solid without many highlights means "take it or leave it". Nothing bad enough that I can dislike, but nothing much that moves me either.

To be honest, Infinity and Departure are about the same. Great vocals and great playing, but generally average songs. Perry, for all his singing abilities can't save a very average song--the unreleased Against the Wall album is proof positive of that.

The playing might have debatedly taken a step down, but the songwriting took a large step up when Rolie left.

I'm not a big fan of Evolution, overall. I almost gave it away, because I never listen to it.

LOL I know. I will have to pull it out and relisten to it and see if I feel differently. It's been quite a while. I love Inifinity, Departure, and Frontiers the most in the classic era.

I put Escape and Frontiers at a tie for 4. Just as the top 3, I can't separate these two.
