I agree Dean that Neal Schon is not the "best" guitarist in the world. I would put him in the top 25 though. Just curious who you might consider the "best" guitarist.

My pick would be Steve Morse, but the term "best" is very subjective, particularly when there is no defined criteria for basing rankings on.

There IS no BEST...it comes down to who moves you when they are playing....

I agree in general, but there has to be some level of technical skill (aka musicianship) involved. Don't you think? Otherwise people would be throwing out names like, oh I don't know, ........ Paul Stanley.

Honestly, I think quitar is a real tough area to grade...because you got technical guys like Satch, Vai, YingYang(LOL), MAB....etc. Then you got feel guys like Schon, Lukather, Johnson, Page, Clapton....etc.

I like both styles....but I find myself gravitating towards the feelers....WCN solo is top-notch. best solo ever, in my mind. I've listened to TOTO. Nothing really jumps out at me, guitar-wise....just don't get why people love Luke.....

It's pretty much the Satch-Schon show for me.... :?

What? Step away from the canned air can....Are you serious? Without SP it'd be 4 guys playing jazz fusion from the back of a VW Bus....Now I'm not saying SP was the best musically, but your statement just flat out lies....are you really Abitaman? Or are you LiePaster?

Think about it dude, If (big IF), If Schon had not formed Journey, what would Perry be doing? Nothing, just like he is now. But without the fame. No Journey, perry would not have joined and temaed up with Cain and Schon and co-wrote some of the best tunes out there in the rock world. Yeah without Perry they still maybe playing out of VW bus. The thing is it took ALL of them to back the band, that is the true point. But if Schon had not formed Journey, none of this would have happened.

My pick would be I can't or don't know, because it is so hard to do this, but I haven't ever seen a better player than Tom Morello. I would put in my top 5 in no particular order, Morello, EVH, Nils Lofgren, and then, shit, who knows. I personally think Schon is a notch below these guys.

Best Guitarist is very subjective. I would have to go with Rik Emmett, EVH, Justin Hayward, Chet Atkins and then maybe Schon. Just too hard to choose. Throw Trevor Rabin in there also.

Rhoads and Schon have always been my 2 favorites. I also love Hammett from Metallica.

Rhoads was great. To me, Ozzy's releases after Randy's death are mostly unlistenable.

Tribute is a live guitar masterpiece.

You guys should read Rudy Sarzo's book "Off The Rails". Him and Randy were quite good friends, talks alot about what Rhoads was like on and off stage and Ozzy and Sharon, etc. Especially during their Blizzard Of Oz tour. The book is a tribute to Randy. It's a good read! LOL but I may be a little biased, Rudy's one of my favorite bassists. :)
