Not me, mister!! There are just certain things in this life that must be original!!
Would you be satisfied with a nanny giving all the love to your children?!? ...as long as they're being loved?!?
Extreme?! A tad ...but so is the music!! The real thing first ...covers later!!!
God forbid my girls ever thinking that Mariah originated OA ...and I think Mariah is talented!!

I agree, MG.

As a matter of fact, what Steve Perry said in the Classic Rock AOR issue seems pretty appropriate:

"I stay away from covers. I just want to keep the definitive versions in my mind and my heart...."

Ah, but see WE KNOW the originals exist. So of course WE prefer them. But isn't it still a good thing for the band if a whole new generation discovers them through osmosis, rather than not at all? Because otherwise let's face it - they're not going to be playing "After All These Years" on top 40 radio
.
Who cares?!?

THEY do. :)
And the Glee people care about their show. Perhaps they/Journey
can get Glee to cover AATY and make it a Grammy award winning hit, as well!!
I don't think it'll change my mind about the show or the song ...but I'm just 'one"!!

I agree. The Grammy's over the years I feel has lost alot. I use to look forward to watching them but over the past years I could have cared less if I watched them. I am happy that DSB will be getting recognition and it will bring Journey and Steve some more spotlight but nominating a tv show at the Grammy's....please.......

I think it's the ultimate compliment that a hip, young show chooses to channel a great song from the past. A entirely new generation gets to appreciate a great song, and by entension, the band. Granted, the Glee version's a little cheesy, but very surprised by the backlash on this board.

The choice of song is NOT the issue! The issue is that the Grammy's have become a joke in nominating a song from a freakin' TV show. I have no problem with an artist's song that was included in a movie soundtrack being nominated, because it is an actual musician/group recording a song, not a bunch of actors performing covers that don't actually perform music professionally and have had more than their fare share of "help" in the recording phase.

Please, your adoration of the legendary song is admirable, but you're totally missing the point.

All award ceremonies are jokes to begin with.

This is reminicent of what happened with "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton. She had a country #1 with it in 1974 and that was that. 1992 rolls around, Whitney Houston covers it on her BodyGuard Soundtrack, propelling the album and song itself through the Stratosphere. The tune becomes one of the best selling singles of all time, enabling Parton to enjoy success with it again in 1995 as a Top 20 duet with Vince Gill.
