Don't really have favorite bands. My moods and tastes change with the seasons. For example, AOR gets a lot more time in my car/stereo during the spring and summer months, while progressive rock and 60s/70s rock get a lot more time in the winter. I just listen to too many different types of music to have a favorite band. Some days I feel like all Motown all day, others I might jam all prog/metal, and some days I just want to hear some good tenor vocal and delay-soaked melodic lead guitar AOR music.

I will say, however, that I generally think AOR music is the best live music and for that, you can't beat Journey music performed well live.

Been listening to a lot of Porcupine Tree lately.
I didn't realize they've been around as long as they have.
They're very good.

But like another poster described, sometimes I'll play Philly soul all day...sometimes, it's Glenn Campbell or Johnny Cash. I've never had a 'faves only' play list. I often hit the used bins at the record store just to buy bands I've never heard of.

a few favorites in no particular order

Survivor (NOT the current version of the band)
Magnum
Gotthard
Phil Collins (Genesis & Solo)
Rob Thomas/Matchbox 20
Thunder :(
Cold Chisel (and Jimmy Barnes Solo)

I tend to vary a lot depending on mood. May go for a few months without listening to anything by one band, then decide the next day I need to listen to the full catalog again. Out of most of the bands, you'll see a a fair amount of variation in styles between the individual cds. Deep and well thought-out lyrics are also highly appreciated, especially for a good singer who can bring them to life. Pretty much all of these have consistently good discographies, where I like the vast majority of albums that were put out.

Journey's in there somewhere, but placement somewhat uncertain. Not too fond of the early stuff (and haven't even heard the EARLY stuff), and then there is a string of albums where they were operating at the peak--of which I love those albums. From that point onwards, they are doing the "good to very good, but neither essential nor horrible" albums. Not sure how to rank that. Enough interest to follow, and get excited over new material being released....but maybe not at the same level as some of the others, who have the potential to crank out a classic album the next time around.

I dig Skid Row. Bach could hit some sick notes in the studio, too bad he couldn't keep the quality as much live.
