Opening act for 2011/2012 world tour (wishful thinking)

If the new album is harder edged like Neal says, they should get Edguy to be the support act. They're fairly new blood in the rock scene (compared to Heart, Cheap Trick, Styx, Foreigner etc) and have some killer tunes. They're sort of like The Scorpions but definitely have their own sound.

Edguy is a Power Metal act....been around since 1997. Tobias Sammet sounds very much like Bruce Dickinson. They border on Progressive Metal.

Perhaps my favorite Edguy tune...and although long, probably their most commercial. I don't think they are a good fit for Journey.

Their last two albums would fit Journey quite well. I think their early progressive stuff kinda sucks anyway when compared to bands like Symphony X or Kamelot. They could stick with material from the last two albums and put on a great opening set at a Journey concert. They'd fit in even better if, like many here want, The Scorpions were on the bill as well. They would also draw a lot of people who might otherwise not go in Europe and South America (Remember, Neal says this tour is going all over the world)

Hellfire Club revealed Edguy's interest in experimenting within music by integrating an orchestra into the production. The album featured a variation on Edguy's style, with a less grandiose, more traditional heavy metal approach being embraced. The band's album Rocket Ride features even less symphonic and power metal elements, and is arguably more oriented towards hard rock. Their latest album, Tinnitus Sanctus, contains even more hard rock oriented songs; the obvious lack of double bass drumming is evident, in contrast to Edguy's older albums such as Vain Glory Opera.

I think that songs like Superheroes, Save Me, Fucking With Fire, etc. would be eaten up by a large percentage of Journey's crowd.

Journey's about to tour South/Latin America without any new material in stores so the Greatest Hits is probably going to be the benefactor here (I'm talking the international market, it still sells well enough in the states). Perry, like Jon and Neal is seeing this windfall. I'm not talking millions of dollars but coming right after the nice sales bump from Tron, the back catalog royalties are enough for Perry to be comfortable in continuing to do what he likes to do (which is nothing).

Journey has nostalgia to those members of the audience. They want to relive their high school prom, etc. So naturally they don't want Journey to grow/evolve/play new stuff, but an opening band wouldn't be in that dilemma.
