I don't mean in terms of radio airplay, I mean in terms of our hearts and minds.
Will we carry these tunes w/us through many moons or will the excitement
end when the circus closes?!?! What kind of long~term record will this be?!?! :?

I don't claim to be Houdini, but I stated in another thread that they'll start the tour with 4 or 5 new Niel songs. By the end of the tour they'll be struggling to justify having 1 new Niel song in the set. :D

No way Don. My brother bought his first cd player in 85 and I remember him paying well over $20 for cd's from record stores.

$9.99 was the suggested retail price in 1986. When CD's came out in 1985 they were anywhere from 16 to 24 bucks or more, then gradually started decreasing in price. I bought them when they first came out and can attest that after the first year, the price started to drop. As the 90s approached and the format took off, the price started going back up again to match the economy.

I would like to see some real hard facts about this one. I remember back in the late 80's/90's there being a huge issue around packaging and labels both artificially driving up the price. I don't remember ever buying a CD at a record store for 9.99, unless it was in the discount bin or on sale.

As a 3 pack with a greatest hits, and dvd, for $9.99 or food stamp equivalence!

ROR sold on it's own. How much were cd's going for in 86? $24.99? Hell even cassettes and lp's cost more than $8.

First off, it was $11.99 and Journey should never have to apologize for giving their fans a great deal. Besides, GH has sold 15 million units, so I doubt anyone was buying this package for the GH. Regardless, this album will sell more than Revelation.

No, but they were forced to basically 'give' the stuff away or not sell anything.....true story. casual fans don't buy cds. Crazy filipinas do. So this issue is confounded....Journey doesn't do things for their fans. They kept it cheap to push the goods, or Walmart was the only offer out there, either way they were peddling subpar material....

The mantra around here was that Neal and Co were evil, greedy bastards and now that's shifted to them giving stuff away because so many were dead wrong about Revelation and Live In Manila. Typical revisionist history. Too much. Can't wait to hear the next excuse when Eclipse sells more than both.

For the folks keeping score at home, let's list the things that the malcontents have been dead wrong about:

-No new music ... wrong ... twice!
-No new DVDs ... wrong ... twice!
-No charting album releases ... wrong! (soon to be twice)
-Touring to small audiences and fading into obscurity ... wrong ... every year!

Any *other* predictions that the resident Einsteins would like to make?

I predict that no matter what happens, you will claim it as success.

I always call it the way it is, son. I predicted less than Gold for Revelation, so they did exceed even my expectations. This album ... minimum 500k sold and well over a million worldwide. Probably closer to 1.5 or 2. I'm quite sure Revealtion was over a million worldwide.

Yeah, I remember that too.

You can see Boston's suggested list price of $9.98 for CD and Bruce Hornsby's of $8.98 for CD.
