Give them a listen, MG! Some of the newer videos have really good audio... :)

There's only two kinds of people......those who SAY they haven't listened and those who have played them over and over.
So then you're calling me a liar?!?! You sure were a mouthy little MF'er this

Why, hell yes!

Any extra points over 10 may be applied as an approval credit toward the next album, which of course we already know beyond a shadow of a doubt is going to kick ass, even before they've written a single lick of it. It's called faith!!!!

But this whole thread is dogshit...

None taken, but my dog grunts out only the highest quality s*** , so I'm not sure if you meant this as an insult or a compliment.

strangegrey wrote:All three questions are asking people to provide a completely speculative answer. Again, no offense to Rip, but I couldn't judge the quality of the music by the youtubes from vegas at all...and no one else can either. There just wasnt enough there to give anyone a clear indication. That's the only fact being discussed right now.

...I can see the relevance of this sorta thread AFTER the record is in everyone's hands..

Of course, and it's designed as such in response to all those who do just that -- not just speculate, but make hard and fast judgments on a final product that hasn't been released. Some were so ludicrous that I started a thread just to get them on record in one place. Read my first post again -- it's like a contest, except the prizes will be dunce caps and fools hats, Razzie style.

Of course people can't rate the album until it hits, but there is plenty enough in the videos alone to give people a good idea of what the songs are all about. Sure, not exactly how they'll sound on the finished album (and if anyone's heard them, please let me know cause I'd damn sure love to). But I figure this -- people who like or love the songs from the live clips stand a very good chance of liking them on the album. People who either don't care for or are undecided on the new songs based on the clips alone can definitely wait and reserve final judgment on listening to the CD.[/quote]

Ok ... that's why the world immediately noticed Arnel and no one noticed Soto ... in 25 years. And Believe In Me is just a vocally challenged song that goes nowhere. Neal's soaring while Soto stays grounded, and that makes the song awkward. And mediocre.

Oh, man, do we disagree here. I think Believe In Me is excellent, all the way around. Jeff shined big time on that one. I said this a few years ago, but that's what a Journey record with Jeff would sound like, and I was all in for that. And could you imagine the route they would have taken with a rock voice like that? I think it would have been a great album. Sadly, we'll never know.

I think JSS sounds great on the song, but the song itself goes nowhere. Always thought the chorus was very flat. JSS can sing circles around a lot of singers, and WET's If I Fall is probably better than any Journey anthem song since the ROR album. Never cared for Believe in Me then or now however. Some of the stuff on Prism was far superior.

Honestly, I don't think Revelation would have been that much different with JSS on vocals. Would have probably been a few co-writes, and his vocal style would have been stamped on the album, but I think you still would have After All These Years and stuff on there--the voice would just be different.

After hearing WET's If I Fall, I believe the J album would have been stamped with much more soul. And of course IMO, that is much more important than range. Prism has some great stuff on it, but my favorite is Lost In The Translation, IMO absolutely no filler on that album.

Maybe I need to listen to it again, but that album never grabbed me at all. It was simple neither here nor there, which is the kind of album I'm very annoyed by. Not bad enough to say "this sucks", but hardly anything that stood out at all. I'm simply indifferent on it.

How would you know what a JSS Journey album would've sounded like by listening to WET? Soto didn't even have a writing credit on the album. Also Lost in Translation rocks.

I am not an Arnel-led Journey fan by any means but I really like the direction this new music is going in.

I'll probably plunk down the money for this album instead of not buying Revelations.

you can't, but you can get a fairly good idea of the possible vocals by listening to JSS' vocal on If I Fall, where he was in major Perry/Cooke mode.

And a couple of tunes like Going Home on Soul Sirkus.

Journey and Soto didn't work out and had it continued, there would probably be no more Journey today.
Just not the right fit and a handful of fans who favored that lineup will never change that. Sorry folks,
but Journey have it right.

There is no way for you to know there would be no more Journey today if they had continued with JSS. There wouldn't have even been a Journey to continue a tour without him. Did you even SEE any Journey show with him? The audiences were energized and into it with him up there. There was even a 3rd leg added to that tour with DL that wasn't originally planned from my understanding. It's simply your opinion he wasn't a "right fit" and nothing more. There are way more than a handful of people who favored that lineup. There were tons of DL fans who either got back into Journey or even into them for the first time because of seeing JSS live with them. There was talk about him and Journey all over the DL message boards about how much people were enjoying seeing that lineup, some of who were there only to see DL and could have cared less about Journey until they saw that lineup. I don't think they "have it right" for a truly hard rock direction now, but that's just my opinion. And only time will tell if they have it right.

And the J Boys opinion. I loved the show with Soto that I saw but I'm over it now and excited with this new stuff

J Boys?

Interested in the new stuff too and will be seeing at least one show and maybe more. Has nothing to do with being "over" anything because I truly hope for Arnel to have longevity with them, he deserves it.
