I can't find it, but someone said, and I agree, that Escape's guitar intro in concert sounds bad compared to the record. I was just watching the '81 Houston DVD, and there you can see Cain out there playing guitar for the intro, and then heading to the keyboards. They don't do that anymore, it doesn't sound like it did and should.

I want to see Neal add another guitarist to the band. Then we know this band is ready to rock!

Why not let one of his guitar techs play some rhythm and fills? That way John could stay at his post, he doesn't seem to like playing guitar much, even though he's adequate at it.

Agree with this idea. SJ was the first to bring it up to me.

They USED to do this. I remember a Who's Crying now film where you could see the guitar roadie playing acoustic guitar from below the stage. They should do that for sure. Of course, then everyone would gripe about "Wow, can't Neal do it all himself??? Maybe get one of his ex wives to play" or some bs like that.

Why not bring in the guitar off of tape. Listening to the new songs, there seems to be a lot of enhancement going on live already with the echo effects and what not. They've been doing it with back round vocals as it is so what's the difference if they bring in one more thing electronically?

Where would it stop? They have to do something up there, and I doubt any of 'em can dance. If they can, I don't wanna know.

Shit, they already piped over the lead vocals for god knows how many years before Arnel came on board. We even had Pineda singing DSB and Open Arms to minus-1 tracks on Philippine Television his first year with the band. Dropping in taped guitars can't be worse than where the band has ventured previously as far as keeping it real.

No one beyond this forum is going to care, it's Journey for god's sake.

I hate the idea of piped guitars. Neal is a guitar great, and should not use tapes for his sound. However, a guitar tech is really part of the band, if you think of it. Using them to fill out the sound is a great idea. Another great idea would be to get that kid out there with the old man. Put him on the pay roll, and let him tour the world with dad and get real exposure. Miles is a great player.

Like Barry Gibb did with his son.

And then you had Eddie bringing in his kid, Wolfie to replace Anthony.

Let's not forget Rick Wakeman's son Oliver who actually took his father's place in the Yes lineup.

Does Mile's want to be a session player with his dad though? I'm sure the solo tour he was on with the Neal Schon band was a cool experience but I'm sure the kid wants to make his own path, not live off of daddy's fame. I would think Neal wants that too.
Neal seems to always find time to spend in the studio, why not produce an album for his son? Get his kid out there with his own material like Steve Lukather's son Trevor.

He has time to make his own path, he's very young. Playing for the numbers Journey is playing is not a given either, even as good as he is. I think if dad says yes, play some big Journey shows, then go for it on your own. That way you played the big time no matter what happens later.

I'm not saying he will make it big on his own.
If I'm in his position, I'd rather play my own shows and know it's all about my band, not someone elses legacy dating back to before I was even born. He's been onstage with Neal a bunch of times already with and without Journey. Seeing how geeked Trevor was when he was playing the Key Club in Hollywood, I think the excitement of being out there on your own in front of an audience is ultimately more fulfilling then being a session player on Journey's tour. Granted, Miles and his keyboard player got to be more involved on Neal's solo tour but that's not the same thing.

That's my take anyway. It's not like Miles is going t o be starving or on the street if being a guitar player doesn't pan out.

I know some may argue it's the same as inheriting a business but I don't see it like that. To me being a musician is about being creative and expressing that through music.

How about the Journey kids (Cain's daughter, Deen's son & Neal's son) be the "local" opening band on the tour.

Because she's a little bit country and Miles is a little bit rock and roll, that's why. You aren't seriously proposing a Journified Donny and Marie show, are you?

And Kyle Castronovo is metal.

Could be interesting though

They could be better than some of the local shit I've seen open for bands in recent years.
