Thanks for mentioning this Story Teller. In my top 10 albums of all time. From what I've heard SO FAR, Abraxas Pool totally smokes Eclipse.

Let me explain...

It's always awesome to start a thread about the GREAT Abraxas Pool...And also your opinion that they are in all time top 10 is cool too....In fact, you could ask everyone where they personally rank it.

but then you make it an opportunity to voice your opinion concerning "Eclipse".

Though your ongoing opinions concerning Journey will predictably continue, as it's your God given right to do so, it really doesn't fit here.

Otherwise, nice job bringing up some Abraxas Pool, as I'm sure some folks here haven't heard them yet.

3 tracks off one of my all time fave albums too. 'Szabo' is an absolute masterpiece!
I think this record is in my permanent rotation.

Don't think I can make the comparison though...it pretty much smokes everything, sight unseen, hearing unheard.
If nothing else, the mix of Abraxas Pool is mint! It sounds so darned great no matter what system or volume.
And then there's that Rolie thing too... (shaking head in wonderous mystical amazement)

later~

Why not? LOL That was my point. You were comparing a different genre of music to a partial Journey album.

I mean, the statement, it smokes the portions of Eclipse you've heard, then, why not state Abraxas Pool (a different genre) smokes almost all (or all) of the Journey albums, then, if Abraxas Pool is in your top ten albums of all time? I doubt more than one Journey album is in your top ten albums of all time.

Oh yeah! Abraxas Pool is just about a perfect album - how often can you say that?

Definitely a "desert island" album for me... a few others are

Journey Infinity & Captured
BB King, Live in the Cook County Jail
Night Ranger, Dawn Patrol
AC/DC, Back in Black
Delbert McClinton, Live in Austin
Eagle-eye Cherry, Present/Future
Freddy Jones Band, Lucid
Hardline, Double Eclipse
Jimmy Barnes, Freight Train Heart
Jonny Lang, Long Time Coming
REO Speedwagon, You Can Tune a Piano, But you Can't Tuna Fish
Sammy Hagar, Standing Hampton
School of Fish, School of Fish
Sister Hazel, Chasing Daylight
Susan Tedeschi, Wait for Me

What are your desert island albums?

It's a remake? Who else did it, Santana maybe? I love that song too. Can we get a big web petition together for Greg Neal to make a sequel? Abraxas Pool is an incredible effort. Definitely would love to see more of that next time Neal is looking for something to keep him busy.

Thanks, found it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7hfdCqs8U0 Neal is just a baby in this clip, and if you watch near the end, you can see roadie Herbie Herbert back stage. Probably already plotting forming his own super group.

The remake is better, IMO.

This record should have been huge. I agree with a lot of your choices, but School of Fish were an awesome band. I wish they had been around longer. Too bad life sometimes gets in the way.

Abraxas Pool is the best Santana album in 30 years, and its without Carlos!
And Raoul and the Kings of Spain is one of my favorite albums...

The Latin side of Neal facinates me. "Szabo" and "Baila Mi Cha-Cha" is a guitar players dream. Schon plays the "gringo" style of music better than most of the gringos he learned from! I think its a freaking shame he doesnt explore that side more. Rolie is in great form, and the rest of the band is smoking! I have always felt that Schon needs Rolie to be complete. Its just a different feel. Im a BIG fan of the first album, and jam that cd all the time!

The "La Raza Del Sol" from the Live 2001 is fantastic as well. It doesnt get much better than Neal.

As for Raoul, that album is magic from front to back. "Secrets", "Me and My Big Ideas", God's Mistake" Good grief! what sogwriting planet did Roland fall off on that one? The production is of the chain!

If you ever want something different, try a band called Tea Party, from Canada...wow!
