Is it me or does any one else fell the say way. While I think that AP is a great singer, I just can not stand to listen to him talk. I have watched the vid on the front page and I just turn shake my head at his english. And it is not everyone that can't speak english good, that I feel this way about. It is just that here he is singing (rather good too) in one of my favorite bands, but when he stops singing, it is like the bottom falls out of the illusion.
The new cd sounds very promising, just from what little I have heard. But I have shy'd away from seeing them, because I think (IMO) that his lack of English, keeps him from being a strong lead singer for the band.

Abitaman, since it is an illusion to you , you can alter it. The man (Arnel) is what he is. If you don't like it, that is certainly your choice. This notion that a lead singer of a band has to be this or has to be able to do X,Y, & Z, is just that, a notion. A "thought" who's criteria may be different to many different people. To me the guy has got a tremendous voice, has improved his stage presence, and we will now find out what kind of writer he might be. It works for me and I was very skeptical when he was first announced as the singer

If the speaking or singing accent is a deal breaker for you, that is your decision. No need to look for others to validate it.

Like the Life Savers joke though.

Arnel is a very humble, modest man, which is magnified by the humility of his culture. Personally, I love that. Nothing is better than when someone who, in almost every way, is a completely average and unremarkable human possesses an incredible, far above average talent. Come to think of it, Perry was a bit like that too, but not in the humility department. Look at Perry. A lanky, average looking, nerdy guy who sang better than anyone on the planet. But there was nothing about Perry other than his voice that what remotely like a rock star, other than his great hair. Now look at Arnel. Short, meak, gracious, not especially articulate, singing lead for one of America's greatest classic rock acts ever, singing the unsingable songs of one the greatest vocalists of all time and doing an amazing job at it, while still a meak and mild guy from Manila, who now has enough money to provide for his family--and run a foundation to help others. I don't know how a guy like this can bother anyone. Personally, I'm in awe of him. Arnel is a real hero in my book, and I love what he brings to Journey.

He doesn't bother me....I guess to put more direct, I have trouble understanding what he says. I have to go back and listen again to what was said, some times more than twice. That is my problem. It is not his personality, he seems like a very nice person, and I would not mind meeting him. He is a great singer, and I like to listen to him sing, and I am actually looking forward to the new cd. I was not really thrilled before or after the last cd, it wasn't bad, it like the re-records better than I did the regular cd.
So my question (and I was kidding around for the most part) does anyone else have problem understanding him? Not does anyone have a problem with is appearance, his singing, writing, or attitude. I am a born and raised southern boy (and yes some may have trouble understanding me, since I lived in Cajun country and now live in the redneck hillbilly area of south east TN), but I have trouble understanding him, and was wondering if anyone else did.

Jack Blades was painful, especially with that one lonnnnnggggggg story.

And the frustration was compounded by the cover songs instead of performing more NR material. I wish they weren't on the upcoming tour and really don't see that they would draw additional fans.
