POLL - What's your favorite song on Eclipse?

Postby superreverb » Thu May 26, 2011 9:04 am

I know there's a "Rate in Order" thread, So I searched for Poll for this, and couldn't find one... so I made one. If there already is this exact Poll, then my apologies, and Andrew, please delete this topic.

Anyways... My little review. I've listened to this record pretty non stop traveling the last few days. For me, Resonate is my favorite track. I'm not crazy about Anything Is Possible, Tantra, or the Venus Jam. But I have to admit, this record SOUNDS so good, I don't Skip any tracks, it's recorded and mixed so well in my opinion, I can hear, and feel everything at the same time is the only way I can describe it. Punchy, clear, and deep. it sounds like a band, not all separate. Deen is huge, and his energy is coming out of the speakers. IMO Neal's guitar is a little much at times, but never WAY too much. I can hear Cain all over the place, which I like, and feel is a core part of what i like about this band. Try jamming Separate Ways without the synth part, or DSB without the Piano, I could have used a bit more Cain. Not crazy about some of the lyrics. Arnel sounds amazing.

All that just a little bit, I think the album is massive, and a great evolution in the journey sound.

Whats your 1 Favorite song on the record?

After multiple listens, so far it is Chain of Love. Just a great beginning, great anticipation, great chorus and AWESOME guitars that melt your face off. Chain of Love thus far.

Resonate. Heavy, complex, and catchy. This is the pinnacle of Journey's new direction and the band needs to pursue more songs like it.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

I can't decide between Resonate and Chain of Love as an absolute favorite.

To me the only clunker on this album is Ritual.

Chain Of Love. Resonate, Tantra and Anything Is Possible are a close second. Take the bookends off of Tantra and it may have been number one. I wonder if they'd consider that and release it to AC?

Ok... Who voted Venus?

For those undecided, save your votes till you have a definitive favorite.

Great list, Dan. I agree with those you chose. Chain of Love, Resonate, Anything is Possible and Tantra were quick favorites of mine and stick out the most, along with City of Hope.

This is tough. I love love Edge of the Moment, Chain of Love, Resonate. I love listening several times in a row to Tantra.

But it has to go to............................Resonate, even though Chain of Love is right there so very close. Almost a tie. Sometimes it is a tie. I don't know. Don't make me choose between them.

I just like the pace of it. Reminds me of Higher Place in that similarity. Very Jack Blades.

I got my CD today and was listening in the car and it hit Ritual and I really liked it. It's grown on me, too.

The danger of choosing favorites early on has been totally realized here. Everything has turned for me.
After at least three dozen listens of the complete disc, I'm picking...Edge Of The Moment. I think it is the closest to the sound I was expecting and hoping to hear on this album.

As well you should be. The idea that you aren't supporting 'Resonate' baffles and angers me beyond words.

I love it. I really think that song should be played towards the beginning of the show, first or second song.

I'm realizing Human Being is too long for me, for the most part. I like the radio edit better.

Why was City of Hope released as a single first? It's becoming quite apparent that there are not
enough fans of this song and they should have released something else.

I am going to edit my own version to have it start with a slight fade right as the drums come in. Perfect part at the end to do a closing fade. Need to reinstall my audio tools. Have not been doing much recording lately.

BTW I ripped my cd to mp3 for portability.. DONT. Even at 320k (high rate for mp3) it kills the dynamics of the album big time. If you use Itunes or the like look in to apple lossless format. Takes up a lot more room but to me it is worth it. I still think the album is mastered a bit hot like everything else these days and Mp3 seems to bring out the worst in these loud mixes.

It's early, but Human Feel and City Of Hope, the 2 released singles, have clocked in with a combined 0 votes.  Baffling that Journey's management would decide to release what I think are the album's 2 worst songs. Apparently, I'm not the only one that thinks that.

Yes, the two singles the band released are my least favorite. I like them both, but they pale in comparison to the rest. COL is my fav right now, but it changes constantly which is a good thing. Very solid effort!

It really is strange. City of Hope sounds like single material for the first minute or so, then it just peters out.

In fact, a LOT of Eclipse suffers from a very strange malady indeed: The verses actually are quite catchy compared to the choruses. City of Hope is a FANTASTIC song until the chorus itself hits and the entire song loses steam. Strange.

Moreover, Chain Of Love sounds like the EXACT type of song that Europe and South America would eat up and love. But they released HF. In the U.S. they should have released an edited Tantra (take out the front and back of the song) to the AC charts, and Anything Is Possible or Resonate to mainstream rock stations.
