Yeah, the band would have went belly up since there wasn't a Walmart to sustain them. The band was on their last legs. The label wanted commercial success.

They weren't gonna be going very far. It was either get Perry or not be a band anymore, if you listen to Herbie's take on it..

But if I hear reviews saying it's Michael Bolton meets Rick Astley meets John Waite.. I'm not sprintin' out to get that one either....are you?
