Perry had his chance. He had many chances. He wasted many years that Journey could've been doing something. These were years that he was "Toast"... while he was recording his own stuff.

If Perry wants to go out and do the World Series with a band. Great. But they can't even get him to sing The National Anthem.

In the meantime, Journey has a singer who is putting the time in and doing the work. HE deserves the big gigs. Not Steve Perry. Sorry, Perry WAS the "Great One" in Journey, but Steve Perry has moved on and has done nothing to earn a spot at a huge gig with this band in 15 years. It's like calling Mohamed Ali in to fight the current Heavy Weight Championship. Simply because he was amazing once. If Arnel quits the band, fine. Call Steve Perry. But to say "Hey Arnel, thanks for helping us resurrect our career that Steve Perry threw away. Now we want you to take a back seat so we can bring him up to sing for our big gig at the Superbowl" would be crap.

Morally and ethically .... yes...

BUT... NFL Productions agrees to pay $5 Million plus for a Perry-fronted Journey versus "no Perry - no way"... my money is on Cain and Schon telling Nelly "sorry dude"...

hell, Nelly would tell them to do it before they had to say anything..

With the exception of travel and production expenses, the NFL doesn't pay halftime acts, the free publicity is supposed to be reward enough..

Is it really that big? I thought most people turn off the half time show. I can't watch it. Horribly cheesy and embarrassing stuff. Come to think of it, that may be the reason they would let Journey do it. I hope they never do.

Did you watch Bruce Springsteens show? U2's? McCartney's? They were all excellent. The BEST ever.

I believe gasp, you may be wrong here. I have the Springsteen SB CD/DVD and he says the NFL paid for everything...hotels, airfare, RV's for every single band member, and a huge after party. At least they did for Brucey....but again, they had been asking him to do it for 14 years before he said yes., so...Clarence got his own goddamned entrance to the SB parking lot!

Nail on the head. That's why Greatest Hits has gone Diamond +
People know the Big 10 or the Dirty Dozen or whatever we wish to call it and that's enough for them.

And I bet most of them can't even name 10 without looking at the CD cover. And I don't mean that the way it sounds... casual fans are fine, nothing wrong with them, for any band. Bands need them as much as they need the die hards. I'm certainly a casual fan of a lot of bands - I own a lot of 'greatest hits' on bands where I don't care about seeking out every album. I have the Styx greatest hits one, and I promise you I can't name 10.

But those are the people who bring in the real money (14 million plus copies of GH trumps their faux platinum attempt two years ago - and don't anyone come in here with Revelation numbers on me... regardless of what it sold any why, it didn't go frickin' Diamond  ) and that's what Journey is still banking on, why else the hell would they bother re-recording the hits... because they knew that they needed that market segment.
