No, you and I aren't talking about the same thing. What I meant was that I don't believe Perry is a fan of Arnel's, but the reason for that (in my opinion) is that Arnel is singing for Journey. I don't think it's because Arnel's not a good enough singer to earn Perry's respect or anything.
I don't believe he said it one way or another...but there are many here who believe that all is well in Journey land.

Actually, this is not quite true. Every major sales spike for the back catalog over the last four years has had a catalyst other than any actions the band has been taking in most cases.
The use of Journey songs in The Sopranos, Glee, and Tron, The Fathers day promotion on iTunes, and Escape's 30th aniversary have been the major players for the most part.
Sony's marketing department has to be lauded for their efforts too. To get Escape selling again even if just for a month is impressive, considering I haven't seen any promo at all.
The greatest amount of International sales came in 2010, (the year the band wasn't even touring) with DSB reaching the top 10 on Britain's singles chart and The Greatest Hits getting all the way up to #12 on the UK Album chart.
I'm not saying Journey touring doesn't help move a few units but The revival of the back catalog at retail would have happened either way as was proven in 2007 and 2010.

All fair points, but I don't think most of those promo spots would have occurred had the band been dead and buried. It's also no mistake that none of this happened with Augeri. And the reason is twofold; he couldn't perform well live for the last 3-5 years of his tenure, and he wasn't really marketable. Italian dude from New York that could be anybody, good singer and nothing remarkable in his background. Pineda? Polar opposite, in that he's a far better singer, hails from the other side of the world and has a story. Pineda helps keeps the music alive, and anyone that frequents these shows sees a staggering amount of younger kids than even in the Augeri years. And I'm sure that's in large part because of Glee, The Sopranos, etc. I guess it comes down to the chicken/egg argument.

Except you don't get to Pineda... without going through Augeri/Soto...
had Neal called Journey quits after Perry left.. he'd be doing something else.. the man can't sit still... and Journey (the band) would be left to the dustbins.. and Pineda would still be singing in Manila...
However unworthy you may feel Augueri is - without him today's Journey would likely not exist..

No argument from me here. Augeri is a black spot in Journey's history because he lost his voice and management made a decision to make him pretend he was singing. A big mistake that had potentially huge consequences, but made little in the way of headlines. Does that take away from what Steve Augeri brought to tbe band? In my world, no. I can also see why the band want's to disassociated themselves from the incident, and while it might appear unfair, further media attention to SA, at any level, for any purpose, would have a negative affect on what the current Journey is doing. They don't need people googling about SA, hence no acknowlegement. I'm sure the band still holds Augeri close to their hearts. If they don't they are really cold mother fuckers.

I think it would have been fitting. The band did have a lot of dagos in the band at that time - Schon, Cain (Friga), Castronovo, and Augeri.

They could have had an alternate ending where Augeri is in the parking lot. He slips a tape into his car cassette player and begins to sing along to DSB.
There is a tap on the car window and he looks out to see Deano there.
Suddenly, everything goes black.
