Worst Tribute to Journey EVER!

Postby JRNYMAN » Fri Jul 22, 2011 1:00 pm

Was searching YT for Suzanne with Deen on vox and this was in the search results.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zOPijmXqq4
It starts off v e r y slow so you have to endure about a minute of excruciating anticipation before they deliver the worst cover of any Journey song ever. Enjoy! :P :D :D

Oh and BTW, I never did find the vid of Suzanne performed live with Deen on vocals so if someone would reply with that link I'd appreciate it.

3 Days 'til Journey plays Phoenix. Outdoors. In JULY! ( Who the fuck schedules their tour dates?! )

It's performances like this one that really make you appreciate the real thing - even on their worst night! :D

Yeah, I had to click that off. Not a good cover.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Eh, just drink more.

I see awful KISS bands all the time. Have a few cocktails and it can be fun. 8)

This guy would kill doing Journey at local karaoke though. Whatever country this came from.

And don't think Schon hasn't already seen this.

WTF?

Did Journey ever play this song in this arrangement? Because I know Frontiers has.

Ya know, not that you mention it, I vaguely remember hearing or hearing about them using a slowed-down arrangement of one of their tunes but I can't remember if it was Suzanne or a different one. Did you watch the vid long enough to see them launch the song into the proper speed? If you shut down the vid before they started .... ahem.... "rocking it".... you missed their performance going from bad to x-tra bad!

I watched it long enough yes, but it became too much. Even Meat Loaf sounded better last night

Musically they are ok, and the guitarist is pretty good if a bit raw.
I laughed all the way thru though at the lead vocal and the backing vocals inparticular were almost shit your pants funny.

Everything about this vid is just weird...
It looks like it's taking place in someone's basement - super low ceilings.
The audience is seated which leads you to believe the "performance" is more like a concert than a bar setting. It's one thing to go out to a bar that has live music and the cover band happens to suck - that happens all the time. But from the looks of this vid, these people all paid to be there, or at least are there on purpose.
The members of the audience all have glow sticks.
The singer's diction is mind blowing - and that's when he's singing the correct lyrics. Part of the time he isn't even singing the correct words! It's like he learned the song phonetically but some of the words he learned he mishears and they aren't really words at all. Sorta like this...

It's a Japanese cover band in Tokyo. That explains some of it.

That would explain it if that was the case but based on the caricatures on the wall behind the drummer, it looks like Korean. I have no understanding of either language, written or spoken so I dunno for sure, it's just what came to mind when I saw it.

Nah, it's actually Arnel's old band The Zoo, touring Asia with their replacement singer.

I tried to listen to the whole song...but I had an uncontrollable urge to grab a pencil and puncture my fucking eardrums. I had to shut it off.

I expected worse... not good by any means but I've heard worse. And yeah, this is similar (though not identical) to an arrangement Frontiers used for a while. That was a great arrangement, too.

This is nowhere near as bad as the opening post made it out to be. In fact, all seem to be competent musicians, though all you can really hear is keys, drums and lead vox, which makes me think Perry time warped in from 1986 and mixed it. :D

Overall though, not bad at all. Ballsy move doing that song in the first place, and with the slow opening as well. Props for that.

Thanks for posting!

I mean if I made a night out of going to see this band at a local bar, I probably wouldn't be too impressed. But like I said above, as far as YouTube viewing goes... not awful.
