Bingo! How did we go from having fun with rock songs to now they must explain the existence of life?

Despite Cain's interviews, Eclipse is simply NOT that deep. Songs like "Someone" and "Ritual" are pretty much generic rock tunes.

I didn't mean it directly in regards to Eclipse, but just a general statement.

La Do Da's shittiness has nothing to do with lyrical content and everything to do with its structure, melody, music, and hook. Bad song.

Speak for yourself, man. Though I agree the rest are bad as well.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

WTH is up with people? "La Do Da" was a staple of Journey's live show throughout the entire Rolie era after Infinity. It's an incredibly hard song to sing on pitch, and it WAS a song that showcased Perry's vocal abilities, simplistic lyrics aside. It is definitely not a song that you throw in the set to give your singer a break. I happen to love the song, and I love how they combined "La Do Da" with "Next" back when Rolie was in the band. Incidentally, Arnel sang the hell out of that song, and I'm glad they're dipping deeper into the catalog. He actually sings higher than the recorded version at one point...but he doesn't do the ear piercing note at the end. Then again, neither did Perry live.

I think "La Do Da" like many of Journey's early tunes were written to showcase the amazing and unique vocal ability of their singer. Journey no longer has any use for these songs.

Yeah, ok.

Oh that's right songs like "Daydream" and "Patiently" were written to showcase Neil's shredding guitar work.

I think those songs were written to put kids to sleep! 2 other instances of shit.

"Patiently?" Seriously? That's ridiculous. That song is a cornerstone. I rank "Patiently" over anything from on Eclipse, and that's no hyperbole.

Right there with ya. Especially live! That one never stood out to me as much until I heard this live version. Blew me away, Neal's accoustic playing and the power and seemingly effortless delivery on SP's part is just stunning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NA0exiQ ... re=related

La Do Da would be a fun song to throw in the middle of a longer set, but IMO it doesn't belong in the encore. Or really anywhere in a shorter set; they have much better songs that they don't play.

I really think they are totally inept when it comes to picking set lists. Though I love La Do Da, it does not work well in a 15 song set when playing with two other bands that are playing only hits. I am a huge fan of bands that I love playing back catalog, but when I go to shows of bands I only know from radio or singles I purchased on iTunes, it does get a bit frustrating to hear stuff that is so "foreign" to me. And I remember the Cheap Trick/Heart/Journey tour, when fans were getting up from sits from the heavier stuff Neal was playing -- just didn't work well for that audience. What I would love to see is schedule the tour with the two other bands, but plan it such that you can get a few intimate shows in where you can let down your hair and really expand the set list.

I know...pipedream.
