So, I had an awesome time at the show last night! My seats were the section 201, numbers 2 and 3, so I was roughly 30-40 feet from stage left. I had a great moment when I first took my seat, because I saw none other than Deen on the stage talking to a roadie and smoking a dart. I should have yelled something to get his attention but I was kinda starstruck, lol.
Night Ranger rocked out for their half-hour set. Really cool dudes on stage, and I believe for the final number, they had a hot VIP chick singing backup with them. Deen didn't come out to take over the drums for Sister Christian. Foreigner had me up for the whole time, singing along to the entire setlist. Kelly went out into the crowd twice. The first time, he went through the 300s and apparently got knocked down by some fat chick, though I didn't notice. I didn't expect anything less than a damn good show from those guys, and they delivered.
Journey came out to thunderous applause. I was kind of bummed that they didn't play Send Her My Love, but they did play Who's Crying Now it its stead, so I at least got a chance to hear that guitar solo live in person. Arnel came out into the crowd during Wheel in the Sky, running right past my section (and me being an idiot filming Friga blowing on his harmonica, didn't seize the opportunity to run to the railing to attempt a high five). I was surprised during the encore, because I though the explosion of confetti at the end of Any Way You Want It (at least I think that was when it happened, could have been at the end of DSB too) would have meant the show was over. But, no. The band closed the show with LTS. By the end, Deen's nice poofy hair was flat and soaked. The audience was pretty good, not many piss breaks during the new songs.
Arnel's voice sounded good last night, only a couple of gaffes that stood out, which is normal. He sounded alot better than he did in Cincinnati. He had no struggles during DSB like in Cincinnati, either. They were still tuned down a half-step but really, that's not something that bothers me.
Which reminds me, the story of the night I won't let go, because it pissed me off. Some fuck goof security guard climbed the rail of me section yelling at me. He said "you need to sit down, buddy!". Really, all I was doing was standing up, singing and fist-pumping during Edge of the Moment. It really diminished the fun I was having. He was some 20-something muscle dummy anyway. When I told my mom (who sat a few rows away from me) about this, she told me that I had some attention, and that, apparently, all the security had their eyes on me at some point. Kind of weird.
Oh, and before some of you ask, my ladyfriend didn't join me, which was a bummer, but my cousin was able to come so we didn't waste the ticket... so she sat with my mum and my old man was right next to me. It was kind of nice to rock out with my dad and some of the other 50+ year-old folks behind me. Made me even more grateful that I got to take her with me to Meat Loaf. And, like I said, Send Her My Love got nixed at this gig and that's kind of our song. All in all, it was an unforgettable show and I definitely will be seeing both Foreigner and Journey again given the chance.
