The whole deal is so silly.

No sales surge or anything like that, Eclipse continues to sell less than half a thousand copies a week as has been the case for awhile. The Greatest Hits dropped below 4,000 sales a week also.

LOL, think that sounds better than 500?

This is very possible. But there's 2 problems with it. First, it's far too late to successfully be promoting an album. They had their window and they blew it. Besides, it's priced so wrong and such an aesthetically poor package that it's just not gonna sell a lot.

You're stretching there. I can't see that having anything or extremely little to do with it. IMO, most people, me included, if they like the music/band, don't really care what the cd is wrapped in. People are going to buy it for the name and/or the music. If I like the music, I wouldn't care less if it's wrapped in a garbage bag.

All valid points. My main point was that, as an impulse buy, it's just going to be something you glance right over. It looks like a $5 product, but has a $10 price tag. Not a good combination for those impulse buyers.

 Now that I think about it......one of the highest selling albums I bought back in the 80s, the album cover WAS a wet garbage bag...........

If Jovi would have went with their original album cover, I probably would have bought about three copies of SWW!

Have you seen the package for Eclipse, Deb?
It's a cardboard sleeve with no retainer ring or anything. The cover is also a bit darker than it appeared in the initial promo video which doesn't make it really noticeable at all with its limited color palette. If you weren't looking for it, you could walk right past it and not know it was Journey.

I downloaded the MP3s from Amazon. Seeing how the lyrics weren't even correct for some of the songs in the Eclipse physical package, I didn't lose out on anything.

Yeah, I saw it on the self at Walmart. But the cardboard sleeve thing is neither here nor there......a person wouldn't even know that until they actually picked it up off the shelf to start with. As for color palette, you don't get much more muted than the Bon Jovi cover above. Chances are it's the standout white lettering that says 'Journey' that will make them pick it up or not.

Um, nope, Bon Jovi's cover had red type, which is always an eye-grabber against muted colors. Pulls you right into the name of the band.

True. That's what I was saying above, people look for the band/artist name first. I guess the Journey name could have been in bigger type across the top I suppose. IMO though, it still stands out against the dark.

Saying that though, Bruno Mars' cd has sold well, and that's one pretty bland album cover IMO.

Steve Perry To Neal Schon: Thanks, But No Thanks

Steve Perry To Neal Schon: Thanks, But No Thanks

http://kluv.radio.com/2011/09/23/steve- ... no-thanks/

The reclusive Steve Perry recently answered questions from fans online and took the opportunity to decline former bandmate Neal Schon‘s latest invitation to join Journey onstage any time he’d like…

Perry called Schon’s offer a “kind invitation” but one that he would “respectfully decline.” Perry did indicate that he is “itching to get back into the studio soon” but refused to indicate when a new album might come out. Journey’s Greatest Hits Vol. 2 will be out on November 1.

No comment from either Perry or Schon about anyone named Salahi. ~JZ

Like did they really expect a comment from either/or...
Perry's good natured bonhomie & the world’s most charmin smile, knocked fans off their feet. Sportin a black tux, gigs came alive as he swished around the stage thrillin audiences w/ charisma that instantly burnt the oxygen right out of the venue.TR.com

You really do cardboard a dis-service by making this statement. Cardboard has substance. I maintain that that packaging was made from recycled cereal boxes.

Neal isn't going to be broke anytime soon. Any chic he picks up from here on out won't be with him long enough to be awarded any big financial settlement.

Absolutely, it does set the tone for the style of music that they were going for. Just out of the ordinary for the band, thus could be easily overlooked.

I bought the Steve Perry X2 pack that came out a couple of years ago, even though I already have ST and FTLOSM. I wanted to hear the remastered sound and the extra songs. Each album had it's own glossy smooth double-sleeved like the lp's of olden days....liner booklet (tons of photos and notes) inserted in the left sleeve and cd (retainer ring) on the right...opens and closes like a book. The pair is neatly slipped into a cardboard jacket box. Very nice and elegantly packaged...not at all like Eclipse. Like RWF said...there is cardboard and there is cereal box...lol
