Still doing that? Cool. 8)

From what I could see, the kid was disabled or had Down Syndrome. I think that's why Neal waded out to him. Schon gets a few redeemable points for that but he's still at a deficit for not playing AIP.

Just curious...are these lucky recepients pre-selected from a criteria or just randomly chosen?

I believe Schon get's a peak at the audience earlier in the evening and then Neal has security notify the kid that he has selected of what will happen later so they don't disappear or end up not available when the moment comes. So, to answer your question, I think it's closer to random than anything.

I think the fan also gets escorted out of the venue immediately after the gift so that there won't be issues later.

Regarding why no new songs…I’m just wondering if the band wanted to go the safe route. COH is pretty easy to sing and play. On the record, AP’s vocals were outstanding and the music tight, but we don’t know how many takes, cutting & pasting, it took getting to the final product.

TDTWT was easily the best song on Rev (imo), and they hardly played it on tour. Although I enjoyed hearing it live (on yt), some technically inclined posters here said the music was off track, somehow.

Little, from what I understand. I read there was little if any rehearsal for these songs.

I see...so, it is random but pre-selected by Neal in advance.

At the beginning of the U.S tour Jon said they would be playing new stuff whether people wanted to hear it or not. When asked about an Escape 30th anniversary tour, Neal said these next two years were promoting new music/Eclipse at their shows.

Sounds like Journey had confidence that Arnel could do justice to the tracks live but simply lost their will to play the songs somewhere after the first few weeks back in the states.

yeah, but we also heard from Arnel, that Jon did a lot of coaching telling him to do certain inflections, phrasing, here and there. Now, how could Jon coach and play his instrument at the same time?

It's not like an MTV video where everyone is being recorded together. Everyone does their part and it's put together. Arnel is singing to tape, Jon's not actually playing at the same time during the recording session.

They also ended up recording the vocals twice (because of Arnel coming in ill prepared if I remember Shirley's interview correctly).

That's what I was trying to mean...splicing parts together. Live...the band has to perform the song on 1 take. COH doesn't take that much of an effort...and, they've got that song down pat by now.

I haven't seen a review this good for Journey in a while.

http://www.hollywoodlife.com/2011/10/12 ... p-believin

Russ Says: Journey Is Easily The Concert Going Experience Of The Year!

If you want to sing all night and have one of the best concert experiences of your life, nothing will prepare you for a night out with the legendary rock band Journey! You’ll have an epic time so Don’t Stop Believin’!

A majority of the bands out today could learn a thing or two about showmanship and talent from the boys in Journey. While out at the Hollywood Bowl on Oct. 11, they had myself and over 18,000 fans dancing and singing all night. Much to my delight one of those fans was Buzz Lightyear himself, Mr. Tim Allen dancing away next to me and singing such hits as “Any Way You Want It” and “Seperate Ways”. His new show might be called Last Man Standing, but this night he was one of the many standing in enjoyment.

To get you geared up for a night of Rock & Roll, you instantly get in the mood with tremendous sets by Night Ranger and Foreigner to tide you over before it was time for the 15 plus song set from Journey. Hit after hit played as if it was straight from the CD. No lip synching when you see a show to this magnitude, its all professionalism.

And in one of the more poignant moments of the night, guitarist Neal Schon offered his PRS (Paul Reed Smith SE) guitar that he played all night to a ecstatic young fan in the front row who is living with Down Syndrome after playing their hit, “Any Way You Want It”. Let’s just say there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Then to end the night, they played which is arguably the greatest song ever made, “Don’t Stop Believin” that was followed up by not just any regular old fireworks display but an epic fourth of July type spectacle that could only be seen to be believed. Trust me it was EPIC!

So HollywoodLifers, if you weren’t thinking of hitting up a concert soon, let alone a Journey concert then I am here to tell you that those thoughts need to change. It is easily the best concert going today! To miss it would be a HUGE regret!

Somebody call Deano.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

Still doing that? Cool. 8)

Have to admit, these guitar give-aways are a very cool thing he's doing.

Neal has always been generous with his money.

I'm sure his ex-wives would agree. Or can one not be reluctantly generous?
