I can't remember what site or even year, i think it was 2008 or 2009 where Perry said he felt the best possible road for Journey's future and or success would be to hire Adam Lambert as the bands frontman. Although at the time, it felt odd because Lambert was weeks away from appearing with Queen and Brian May where rumours were circulating on that possible relantionship. Might be wrong, I'll look for it and post it here if i can find it.

Just for the record, Adele now has 4 million units sold for a single disc release. Eclipse just hit 100k sold for their single disc effort.
Music sales continue their Summer growth spurt after two years of down trending.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Adele's album tracks are all approx seven minutes long with a three minute guitar solo.

Maybe that has something to do with her selling more copies than Eclipse?

Right on with this observation! He was obviously coached by his handlers in advance of the interview in regards to JSS, someting I attempted to imply in my post in the Perry on Soto thread.

One of those singers is actually one of my best buddies in the whole world, Jeff Scott Soto.

Maybe you need to re-read what I wrote. I didn't say Perry brought up JSS out of the blue, I'm saying I believe he and Lora had a reponse canned in case Andrew brought him up.

What are they out to try to accomplish...to destroy Journey?
This doesn't fit with your theory on Perry being paid as the 6th member of Journey. If he is profiting off Journey touring, why would he want to destroy the band?

[That wasn't my theory (meaning I didn't come up with it), but wasn't there some evidence that this was the case up through 2005 or so? I believe it supposedly came to an end at that point. Perhaps it was Herbie who had confirmed it. If so maybe I have put too much stock into what he said, which could be the reason I hesitate to take everything Perry (and his team) says and does at face value. Maybe I'm unjustly expecting him to be the "jive MF'er" Herbie said he was.

Herbie shouldn’t talk about himself and Neal so badly. And, I guess what Schon says is to be taken at face value. Whatever Perry was or is being paid is deserving. It’s not like that band created anything successful before or after him. Like said before, the only song from that flop Eclipse, was hanging on by a thread. I do not and don’t think Perry would consider someone travelling around in your former band whose living was made by copying many many artists’ style “note for note,” anything successful.

You’re just upset b/c Perry does not give thumbs up to Pineda. It would have shocked me if he had. Of course, JSS and Jeremy too are the more consummate artist, even though they probably don’t care to sing Miley Cyrus’.

My take is that he is being complimentary about JSS only because it implies that Journey messed up by not going with him permanently.

[I think you have to go back to the VH1 interview - "don't crack the stone", or whatever, where Perry said he told them to go do something different and/or take a different name. I think in the MR interview he suggests that keeping JSS in Journey would be doing something else, growing in a different direction, etc. With Augeri or Pineda, they're still doing Perry Journey. And he's not going to give anyone any credit for that.

Perry seemed so happy and at peace in the interview with Andrew. Hopefully he has gotten pass all those guys that have mocked him and basically tried to steal his identity.

I think I covered the "other singers" angle perfectly.

I think you certainly got him to open up more on the subject, more so than any other interviewer has been able to do, BUT, Journey is at the top of their game right now with Pineda out front. This year's 5th highest grossing concert tour, a couple of singles that actually charted and let's not forget the remarkable success of the platinum selling Revelation CD/DVD package in 2008. So, I think a question on Pineda and the band's current suceess would have been very relevant. I find it hard to believe that Perry has never listened to any of Journey's new material or watched any of the DVDs or caught any their appearances on network TV. Especially the Oprah appearance, where he actually wrote in a comment.

Top of their game, really? One of the “top grossing tours with Pineda out front” two other 80s bands in tow, with Eclipse probably the biggest flop in Journey’s 30 year canon. The so called Eclipse tour turned into an 80s tour with their being able to play one song from the flop. Their success is based upon their, as it has been said, “living off past glories.” Success is truly in the “eye of the beholder.” You probably may rest assured that if Perry had to travel around as a “sound-alike” singing another artist’s songs, he probably would not be calling it success.

Shall we get into the quasi-platinum Revelation that’s full of the rerecorded mocking “note for note” Greatest Hits? Let’s “not forget” to subtract 700K+ Revelation with GH – Eclipse what 70-80K w/o. What singles charted? AATY charted even better, but where is it now? All albums with SP that the band must play were all True platinum. Those Journey guys will probably be playing those DD till they fold up tent or fall off the planet, whichever comes first. Is this where we give them a round of applause for being at the “top of their game”?

Why do you think Perry is so “open up more on the subject”? Seems lately, he is kinda out and about everywhere.
