Voice-wise, Gregg and Steve had great chemistry. Too bad they didn't seem to get along that great, personality-wise.

To this day I still think back at attending those early concerts. There were no words to describe the chemistry and power of their live shows. So glad that some of these are now captured on YouTube to take ride back to memory lane.

In my mind, this is the greatest lineup that Journey ever had. I just recently found the Osaka 1980 concert on youtube, and they were just magic.

The Capital Centre in Largo, MD. Spent many evenings there.

Lots of great early pro-shots from a variety of bands leaked from that place! :D

Yes, it's been documented that when SP first became a member and not yet situated in SF, Greg opened his home to him. Steve has talked about this in the early days about living with Greg and writing songs together in that basement. But it's also well-known (as hardcore fans have learned) that friction developed as the years wore on.

I couldn't agree more. The dueling lead vocals and Rolie's melodic groove on the keys is just awesome. I don't think this line up, or Rolie, gets enough credit. No sugary syrup with this line up.

even Neals tone was the shit... not the over-driven, over echo-ed mud he has today, just a straight up Marshall tone... vintage smokin' Schon.

I could be wrong, but Rolie just gives off a "normal, down to earth" vibe. The kinda guy who would sit next to you having a beer in a bar at the height of his fame and if you didn't know who he was, you'd never have any inkling that he was a rock star.

Between Schon and Perry, he probably just couldn't take being around pissy prima donna weirdos anymore and left.

Perry's voice was actually pretty annoying during this era, but some great songs came out of this era no doubt.
