New Journey Concert Dates

Postby mgstar1964 » Thu Mar 08, 2012 5:37 am

Hey all,

I know everyone knew about the date on Thursday, July 26th, in Wyoming, with Loverboy, for Cheyenne Days, but there are two other dates to post:

1. April 21st - Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver, BC - w/ Loverboy

2. August 18th - Grandstand Iowa State Fair - Des Moines, IA - w/ Loverboy

The Iowa State Fair date had also listed Pat Benatar as being on the bill, but she is now no longer listed on the Journey site ...

There is also an unofficial date that I found online, but it is not yet posted anywhere:

3. Tuesday, July 24th - California Mid-State Fair Grounds - Paso Robles, CA

Can anyone else here provide any info. on other dates (cofirmed or otherwise), along with any possible other acts on the bills? Is this just going to be a year of secondary / tertiary markets, fairs, casinos, etc., or are they going to actually play the sheds and amphitheatres that they usually play, as well, with the larger crowds ...

This almost has the feel of the 2002 Under the Radar tour, and the 2004 DeTour in terms of shows / markets, unless additional information is revealed ...

I think that the pairing of Journey and Loverboy, along with the potential addition of Pat Benatar is a VERY STRONG show with a lot of "bang for the entertainment dollar" to the average fan, and would love to go if they come to FL ...

Discuss :)

Best Regards,

Michael G.

Journey used to say that they initially tour the major markets. And then the follow-up year, they swing through the secondary markets, sheds, state fairs, etc.

later~

Wow, that place only seats about 950 people, Journey could play that alone! I didnt know that they were going to play markets that small this time. I understand like 3,000-4,000 seat venues, but 1,000? Doesnt seem worth it.

Loverboy just announced the Vancouver date as going on sale soon, through their Facebook page today - its not actually on their own website, per se ..

Perhaps this is just a "warm-up" gig together, in Loverboy's hometown, to work out the "kinks" and the strategies / lighting, sound, etc. for the upcoming tour ...

Just sayin' ...

They should schedule a small theatre tour and play their new music.

Eric,

A beautiful idea ... it'll probably never happen, but it would surely please the hardcore fanbase ...

Interesting, the April 21st date in Vancouver is not posted on Journey's site, but it is listed as a Journey / Loverboy show on Loverboy's Facebook page - they advertised pre-sales for this show ...

The venue only holds 990 people, although its owned and operated by Live Nation ...

On the Commodore Ballroom / Live Nation site, the show is listed as a Loverboy show - 8:00p start - no mention of Journey on the ticket purchasing section ...

Someone posted on the FB page for Loverboy and asked why there is no metion of Journey on there, but no updates so far ...

Actually, I had thought that Journey was going to take the next 5 months or so off, until the tour starts in July, so I was really very surprised when this date popped up under Loverboy's FB page today ... it seems a bit unusually early for them to start their tour for this year, as the show in Nashville was really a one-off timed to coincide with the Rascal Flats Crossover show, and give them a warmup before that taping ...

Perhaps someone else on here can investigate further and report back some findings (Don, Jrny84, Rip Rokken, etc. - the usual suspects) ...

Thanks ...

They usually announce events at the Commodore on the Vancouver morning news show. I'll keep my ears open tomorrow morning - if it's true they'll likely make a big deal of it since Journey hasn't played anywhere remotely close to this side of Canada in, like, 25 years or more

You're right - there's nothing out there anywhere other than on Loverboy's Facebook page. I even went through the motions of the presale, stopping short of actually buying the tickets (love Loverboy but I've seen them many times and won't travel 4-5 hours for them alone) and there was no mention of Journey anywhere.

Was the highest ticket price for that show 40 bucks (Canadian)? Considering that it's not a state fair, that doesn't sound like a valid price for Lover Boy and Journey together.

No, I think it was more like $56 or somewhere around there.

Had not heard the Pat Benatar rumor. I saw her live a couple years ago and have to say, though her voice was strong, the performance as a whole was very sleepy.
Gone was that fiery stage presence that epitomized those early MTV videos. She spent a lot of the set on a bar stool seated next to Neil, who also appeared tired.
Maybe I got them on a bad night.

08.17.12 Louisville, Kentucky at the Kentucky State Fair. Journey and special guest Pat Benatar and Loverboy.

Really surprised they are going the 3 act route as it's not a major city sweep this summer.
Does this mean another abbreviated set-list again instead of the 20 songs per night they averaged on their last "Detour" tour in 2009?
Basically, the Dirty Dozen +3 again?

Yeah I am surprised about the triple act thing, but I noticed that many acts are doing that this year, even the current popular acts like Rascal Flatts and Sugarland.

At the Iowa State Fair:
*Rascal Flatts with special guests: little big town, eli young band, and edens edge.
*Toby Mac with Tenth Ave. North and Jamie Grace
*Journey with special guests: Pat Benatar and Loverboy.

Pretty common with country acts it appears.

the good thing is they will mostly drop city of hope in favor of thier Resonate, thanks to the video they can play.

See my other thread. They limited the video to private viewing only on youtube and their own site and removed the link completely from their facebook page.

Apparently, not a favorite at the moment.

I like Benatar and have seen her numerous times. That said , her shows tend to have a lot of downtime where it's closer to an acoustic set. She will NOT be amping the crowd up and setting the table for Journey like Foreigner did last year. It's just not her style which makes this such a weird opening act. Better for her to go on BEFORE Loverboy but I don't think that is how it is scheduled.

Now, take a band like Kool And The Gang. From all reports, they are bringing the house down as openers for Van Halen. People may have had their doubts about that pairing but who ever came up with the idea (reportedly Roth) knew what he was doing.

Wow, that is a unique opening act! I always wondered why Journey never toured at least one go around with Chicago? Both bands sound really good live and they both have their share of ballads and mid tempo rockers. They did do a co-headliner with Def Leppard a few years ago and Def Leppard doesnt sound that good live.

According to the Iowa state fair website Pat is still part of the lineup. http://www.iowastatefair.org/on-stage/g ... d/journey/
It's also listed on her website.

She may not have the energy in her show she had ten years ago, but she still puts on a top notch show. I've seen her set list as of late, which I hope will hope will hold through the summer. It's got some stuff on there she hasn't played for a while. I will definitely be at the Iowa show.

Their website has Freedom Hall in Louisville, KY on August 17 too. Capacity is around 19,000 there I believe.

I will not spend any more money on a Journey ticket after last summer's crappy show/tour. Sorry, not worth it. Only thing that could entice me would be a Loverboy setlist featuring their recent work, but I doubt that'll happen on this tour.

Capacity and the number of tickets they will sell can be very different. We'll see. As long as it remains a DD tour I'm out. I can get that
from my Houston DVD and CDs. If they go back to mixing in some new stuff I might considering attending.

Yeah, I saw them there in 09 with Heart and they put on a great show. Tickets go on sale March 23rd I believe, and we're deliberating on whether or not we should go or see if they'll return to Nashville.

Or maybe we'll hit both.
