If anyone actually said or believed that, they're a tool....what I think has happened (and certainly did at the time) was the degrade in respect for making sane and appropriate 'band' decisions and suffering from LSD (lead singer's disease) a concern that was somewhat forgiven (by me at least) with the delivery of "Trial By Fire" (and later reneged due to 'leading the band on')
Connecting one's perception of the quality of person, with the caliber of their talent is definitely fallacious rationale, but both qualities can influence the other - I can definitely see that...
