Cain writing with REO

Postby RocknRoll » Mon Oct 22, 2012 2:27 pm

Looks like Cain is still writing and maybe getting a bit of traffic into his new studio!

From REO"s Facebook page

Hi friends, we rolled into Nashville today to record a new song, and capture the whole experience on video. We are going for "Hard Day's Night", meets "Modern Family", meets "Keeping Up With The Kardasians"...we are thinking: "Keeping Up With The Speedwagon"! The song is from my Nashville songwriting session with Jonathan Cain and Chris Lindsey, and is called "Nothing We Can't Rise Above". We have been working on new music at soundchecks, and had a creative and productive day here in the studio today. We are recording "old school", with the whole band playing together in the studio like we used to in "the day". Strange thing, it sounds more fresh and modern than ever...go figure? Hey, it's all about the song and the performances. Stay tuned...I will be posting the play-by-play when I get back to my room every night.
PS. I made my first album with REO in Nashville back in 1972, (REO/TWO). It feels so right to be back here, reinventing the band again forty years later. We are looking forward to sharing it all with y'all. Stay tuned...

That's cool. Wish Journey would have collaborated more with outside help for their post-Perry albums.

I hope they release it. I enjoyed REO's last studio album.

Yeah, REO's latest cd's always have a few really good tracks on them. The rocker's always seem forced to me. "Can't Stop Rockin'" comes to mind. One great rocker I really liked was "She's Gonna Love Me". Great tune.

I seem to recall a song called "Nothin' We Can't Rise Above" on the list for Eclipse. Remember the picture of the whiteboard with all the tracks down, back when the album's working title was "Tantra"?

I have to say that Jonathan is one of the best song writers that Rock-N-Roll has to offer...If he writes something he has strong belief in...Record It !!... Just like many other bands who has benefited in his ability....I still think he took Journey to a whole new level...The musical change was needed... He also did some great writing with Heart..."Allies" is one of my favorites

Yea...and there were reports that Neal refused to allow Cain to include a ballad on Eclipse. Maybe this is it?

Well at least we'll get an idea of what might have been.

I remember that too. This song was supposed to be on Eclipse. Now watch it become a huge hit for REO

I would add that Cain has said previously that he tends to re-use titles (if memory serves correctly, he was referring to World Gone Wild) - so it may not be the track as written for Eclipse.

I wonder how many times he has reused the phrase/title "State of Grace".
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Hell...I believe he even wanted to re-record Arrival with Arnel. Jon likes wine. Sometimes the wine goes to Jon's head.

Pretty good drip. Journey would have been nothing in the 80's without Cain.....still wouldn't be. Take your crank out of Rolie's ass.

Seems like every album since Arrival.
