This and Andrew's are just amazing interviews....the best he's ever given.

Brutally honest. I feel for him..he thinks too much. I do, too. Thinking too much about stuff isn't a good thing for a man.

He pretty much indicated he listens to new Journey stuff. He said something about he hasn't heard Neal reach things without him..and he admitted he can't without Neal. If that's not an impetus I don't know what is.

Fantastic interview. Lots of insight into his time with Journey, what drives him, and what holds him back. He's human, wow, what a shock. A pretty deep one at that. Hope he gets out of his own way and releases new material.

OK...Steve Perry in the studio with us!!

OK...here is something VERY special!!!
I promised Steve Perry to not post this picture before he decided to show up in public again which he has now :)
There are pictures and youtube videos of him meeting fans, signing stuff and taking pictures!

This picture is actually from a VERY funny video i shot at Capitol studios while recording Vic Heart's album.

Steve spent 2 full days with us in the studio helping to arrange backing vocals, re named a song, took me and Vic on a 90 min lunch and gave Vic all the best tips he could think about in becoming an artist, keeping his voice in shape etc...he cracked us all up with jokes and was simply the nicest guy you could hang with!!!

From the left - George Hawkins Jr (bass genius), Niko Bolas (world class engineer), Steve Perry (God:) and Vinnie Colaiuta (Also God:)

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid= ... =1&theater

Our engineer Niko Bolas, who is one of the best ever, is a close friend of Steve and when we were setting up in the morning of the first day Steve called Niko...i just heard him say "hey Steve what's up?" and thought he meant Lukather since they are close as well.
Niko said "i think you should come down and check this recording out, it's gonna be a great one" and 30 minutes later Steve walks in with a big smile.
He was truly so blown away by our album that he ended up staying for 5-6 hours, helped arrange backing vocals, he re named one song and just spread to most fun and inspirational vibe you can imagine...he is funny as hell and the same goes for Vinnie Colaiuta and George Hawkins jr on drums and bass that we were tracking with :D
Plus they all know each other since 25-30 years...i haven't laughed so much in many years :)

I had met Steve before but this time we really got to hang and talk which was great...he said that he wants to do some work with me which of course would be amazing and even if it never happens we did do a lot of work during these 2 days together which is enough to make me smile :D
He told us he couldn't come back for the second day because he had a lot of things to take care of but the next morning he walked in again and just said "is it ok if i stay today as well because i woke up this morning and just couldn't stop thinking about what an amazing album you are making and i simply had to come down again"!!!!!

He ended up staying almost the whole day again and really got into working on the songs with us...he was singing a lot of AMAZING harmonies and ad libs live for us in the control room so Niko just said "Steve, i'm setting up a microphone for you to do some backing vocals now...go!"...and he actually started walking towards the big recording room at Capitol, the same room Frank Sinatra did most of his big albums in!...and i just freaked out in my head thinking "are we getting fucking Steve Perry on backing vocals right now!!!!!" haha...
But he stopped himself and very kindly explained that he REALLY would love to do it but there's soooo much talk about IF and WHEN he MIGHT ever do something again etc and he was very careful about not losing the media and fan buzz it will create which of course it will.

But he gave us a big promise to write with me and Vic and sing backing vocals for the next album and i'm gonna hold him to that :D

The above highlited part is very telling...

Wow very interesting stuff. Sounds like he's very aware that everyone's dying to hear his voice again and he doesn't want to let the cat out of the bag too early.

Let's get a grip here folks. There is nothing new here. Same old retread. He misses performing... wishes he could...misses the magic w/ band...had to stop or he'd lose himself... Now has new music but is his own worst critic.... blah blah blah. I used to enjoy hearing these little nuggets every time Sony wants to dust him off and put him out there. Now, it's just old and tired.

yup... but that's not the part that's interesting...

that he's very aware of how anything he records would create a "buzz" is...

I don't see what the big gee whiz is there. He knows fans, labels, and rock journalists have been asking him for years to emerge from his self-imposed exile. So obviously, after all these years, whatever he does that's new will be buzz worthy. Interviews like this stroke his ego which every rock star wants/needs. But the empty promises are what I (as a fan) am tired of, and I'm sure what the band was tired of too.

I don't recall him making any promises in this interview...

It's just interesting, that's all... that "after all these years", he's still protective of the "buzz"...

Maybe "after all these years", you should "get a grip" and simply avoid commenting on topics you admittedly "are tired of"

Oh, just STFU! He's as entitled to his opinion as you are. Maybe he's tired of getting all wet, like many of us are, everytime some crumb is thrown at the fans, that "seem" to indicate that Stephen might actually be getting ready to do something, then he never does.

I never said anything to that effect... I just thought it was interesting that Perry is still so controlling of when he commits his voice to tape....simple as that...

Like I said.. in the interview I don't recall Perry ever talking about doing anything in the interview...

and my comment was on what he wasn't going to do, which was in Tommy's post... which I POSTED...

Never said FM wasn't entitled to his opinion... I said why post on something you admit to not being interested in anymore?... here's the answer... cause yer still interested..

I know you saw the wink, and I know your history with message boards, so you know Steve was just being Steve, but it's fun to beat up on a muthafukka once in a while, isn't it?

Good work.

I said why post on something you admit to not being interested in anymore?... here's the answer... cause yer still interested..

and Fuck you too.

I know you saw the wink, and I know your history with message boards, so you know Steve was just being Steve, but it's fun to beat up on a muthafukka once in a while, isn't it?

Good work.

Please.....it's like Saint John light.....Zero muthafukka and much less filling.....

ya but St John wussed out and bailed.. at least I'm still here..

The Tommy D post is NEW  ... thanks, Slucy!
But,, I agree, it's all a tease at this point. I've given up hope of ever hearing anything new from SP ... 7 yrs. of anticipation is long enough  ...

We'll all be shittin' in diapers by the time Perry sings again.... Hell, I'll bet Perry will be shittin' in diapers too by then..

I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Now, it's just old and tired.

yup... but that's not the part that's interesting...

that he's very aware of how anything he records would create a "buzz" is...
