Which is more likely to happen in the band's future, which sadly seems like it could be slowing down?

Neither... Neals already said that they are touring this year, then he's off to do the Santana thing..

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Sorry to admit, but it's probably time. I think most of them still have a bright future ahead.

Deen and Arnel will probably soldier on, though in different directions. They're still somewhat young and they don't have the royalty 401 to retire on like the others have.

Yeah, it does look like the Journey is coming to an end as far as studio material is concerned. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean Journey stops touring altogether, but it looks like it's starting to fizzle out.

I think if they record new material it will be a new single here and there, we won't see a full length album from them again.

I think that they will release one last album at some point and give the fans one last classic Journey album.

I dont think Journey of all bands, is going to call it totally quits anytime in the near future.

People have been saying this since 98.
It's kinda like "Yeah, I'm working on new music".

They'll be around. There's demand for them and they're doing big concert biz.
Not sure there'll be another new studio album. Hope so.
I'm not sure how peeps can say they're winding down. They did the superbowl thing, they did the crossroads thing, they had a new album, and a huge tour. Seem pretty busy to me.

They'll take a break I'm sure. Neal is going to do his thing with Santana next and he has mentioned doing a little bit touring with his old band mates from the Golden Gate days. Probably do that for a year and then drag Journey back out of the shed, providing Pineda's voice is still serviceable for a few more years.

I should hope Arnel's voice would be solid after a 2+ year break from touring the Journey catalog!

Arnel mentioned before in the Shoutbox about the band winding it down in 2017. My timeline gives them one big 18 month farewell tour after this summer.

nah.. we only need to look at history to see what happens to singers over the age of 40 who sing the Journey catalog...

I was reading an article in Ultimate Rock. Jon mentions how Eclipse was only possible because of the success of Revelation and some other things. He also talks about album nights where the band might play one complete album. Jon says he can't see the band doing that because Neal would bet bored. Jon says that Schon told him that he doesn't want them to be a catalog band, just playing their old songs every night.
Here we are though, a year removed from that interview and it appears that is exactly what Journey is doing now.
The Santana project seen in that light may be a serious relief valve for Neal as he can't be satisfied with how things eventually finished up with the fans' weak reception to Eclipse.

Santana albums usually do well and there always seems to be a Grammy buzz to surround any Santana release.

With Rolie on board this could really be the type of album that satisfies Schon's need to rock harder or just be different in general.
