http://www.joecrabtree.com/podcast/stev ... k-drumming

In this podcast I talk to Steve Smith about his new book "Roots of Rock Drumming" (Hudson Music), practice concepts, rhythmic singing (konnakol), drum art and more.

Over the past 35 years Steve has toured and recorded with some of the biggest names in jazz and rock - appearing on recordings that have sold over 100 million copies worldwide - including Journey, Bryan Adams, Mariah Carey, Andrea Bocelli, Zucchero and Jean-Luc Ponty.

Steve is currently touring with his own all-star band Vital Information featuring Tom Coster, Vinny Valentino and Baron Browne. They are celebrating their 30th Anniversary with the release of their 2012 album LIVE! One Great Night. Smith also tours with "The Trio Project" featuring Hiromi & Anthony Jackson, Jazz/Fusion guitarist Mike Stern, and Zakir Hussain's Masters of Percussion (March/April 2014)

Below are links to some of the things Steve talked about in the podcast...*
He highly recommended the book "Blues People" by Leroi Jones (Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk)

He also talked about the reunion Journey album Trial By Fire (Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk)

When discussing practicing he mentioned the book Talent is Overrated (Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk)
