I'm one of those people that think Journey would not still be going if it weren't for Steve Augeri and what he brought to the table in the late 90's and early 00's......but, having said that, it pains me to watch him now. He seems like a geniunely nice guy and all, but his voice is absolutely shot/shredded. I saw him 3-4 years ago at a small club near Cincinnati, OH, USA, and it was embarrassingly bad.

That's true with most singers though. Look at Air Supply as a fine example, compare them 30 years ago to now and you can hear a completely huge difference. People age on the inside just as much as they do on the outside.

And I'm sure that's why when you hear a promo on the radio of a really old band who's going to be playing, most times they will play the old record bits and not how they sound now. Like for example, a number of years ago an artist was playing some place and they were playing bits from their records from the late 70's. They don't sound like that anymore, so why are they playing the old 70's recordings for the upcoming show? That's disappointing.

Sorry Sushi Hunter, but I'm not in the habit of listening to Air Supply.

Lol. You guys are stone cold dead. This is a technically worse performance. Very little vocal control on display here. Hopefully Brywool can chime in w/ some thoughts.

Damn, haters be hating. You guys must be watching the clip on an outdated SmartPhone w/ shitty speakers. He even goes for the "Forever Yoouuurrrrs" part at the end, and holds it...great command of chest and head voice.

Let's agree to disagree.
For the record... NOT a hater.
LOVE Augeri and his time with Journey. The fact that he gave us back the band we love is among the things I'm thankful for this holiday season.

I just don't hear what you guys are hearing. He's still a tenor and he's still hitting the notes. Did any of you guys see RATT or Whitesnake on the recent Monsters of Rock webcast? Those guys have lost more than a step, maybe more than a flight of stairs. Not the case here.

I still like hearing Steve A perform these songs. I get the criticisms but he was a member of Journey for a very long time. It's rock and roll and any warts that come with it are no big deal to me. I actually despise pitch perfect vocals to be honest. The karaoke/American Idol/Glee thing has killed and emascualted rock music.

NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I absolutely love Augeri...but his voice is toast. Simply put, yes he still is a tenor, but his vocal cords are being overblown because he's trying to push through his already present issues. So it's just piling on him. His passagio is painfully compromised, thats why Faithfully sounded worst than Don't Stop Believing. Faithfully SITS in the male passagio the WHOLE time. With Don't Stop Believing having it's High B's dispersed throughout the song and faster tempo it's easier to manage...they are both a bitch to sing anyway. He clears up at the top eventually, because that is a different space altogether while singing. But if you listen he even gets fatigued there.

So much hate on this guy. SA is actually going for, and for the most part, clearing the high notes, he wouldn't even dare try in 2004, 2005. I've heard singers whose voices are "shredded", "shot", "demolished" etc. Guess what? They are not even tenors anymore.

Meat loaf is 66, Augeri is 54, and those 12 years difference are huge when talking mid 50's to mid 60's.........that's one lame comparison

(sigh) :D ....it's a lost proposition trying to critique an aged artist singing the same songs he used to do 10,20,30 yrs. ago. Think of Lou Gramm. It's great for their fans they're still out there performing, but maybe they should just sing new songs? I know, I know, they have to sing the hits ...that's what people come to see. But with their old records still around (and most cases, fans' memories), and especially yt capturing their glory days for new/old fans, it's just impossible for people not to see (and lament) the drop in singing quality.

Speaking of yt, I'd been hooked on watching all the videos of Fleetwood Mac 's music, ever since I heard they were back on the road (sans Christine McVie). They were my favorite band back in the '70s. Never much of a concert-goer, so I'm just now experiencing their live performances (and many interview shows they had done in all the years) for the 1st time. Also learned their entire history, all thanks to yt. One thing, when I watch and listen to Fleetwood Mac concerts in their heyday (and mine) playing all those hits, Stevie and Lindsay were amazing. Then, switching to current concerts (I think they've been on the road, touring, each of the last 4 years... Stevie now about 68 and Lindsay 66), those same songs just don't come across as good in their grizzled voices.

I suppose it best that fans should just learn to appreciate the experience and not try to compare different eras. It's sad, though, that we have to get old..... :)

Ha..ha...ha..ha? I think it's a lame comparison only in your head, dude. Whether it's 54 or 66 or 73, we're talking about aging singers. And Meat Loaf's voice is toast, and bears little resemblance to his voice on Bat 1 and Bat 2. From the way people talk around here, you would think that Augeri sounded like Joe Cocker or something. Like I said, haters. That, or they somehow thought Augeri in his prime sounded virtually identical to Perry, which he never did.

I would just say that those who are claiming that Augeri's voice is somehow radically different here, haven't really been paying attention. Any problems evident here (pitchy, thin) have been ongoing since he joined the band. And in many ways, his voice has rebounded from where it was. Much better control.
