Anyone else skeptical of the "Final Word"?

Postby BBKlima » Thu Feb 13, 2014 1:13 am

I wish I could count how many times I've heard bands say "there is no truth to the rumor that -insertname- is rejoining the band" or "we are satisfied with the current lineup and have no plans to bring back the original lineup".

Those negotiations are tricky, and they are always back office so not to upset the new members in case it falls through. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few weeks Journey announces that Steve Perry is back with the band. Too much money in that for all involved for it not to be an ever present possibility.

Yeah. While I wouldn't count on a reunion or depend on Perry 100%, he DID say they were trying to talk. IF they do get talking I think something could come of it. An appearance...a collaboration...who knows. I've gone from -10% sure they'd ever play together again to 5%.

I'm selling tickets to the reunion show. Please send me $1,500 for mid-section seats. No seriously, I'm good for it. I mean, there are no refunds if it doesn't happen, but don't worry about that.

Will always have hope for a reunion tour, but have sort of lost faith that Perry will ever set aside personal differences for a farewell tour. He is now in his mid 60s and I just dont see him having the drive or will power to tour. I think that window of opportunity is extremely slim.

I really don't see a Steve Perry with Journey reunion ever happening. I hope I'm wrong! But I don't think that Perry has enough left vocally to do justice to his vocals of the 1980's, and I also don't think that he has the desire for it anymore?

Steve Perry is my second favorite singer of all time, and I'd love to see him do a Journey reunion. But, Journey would be fools to dump Pineda at this stage. Perry pulled a lot of crap with the band at the time of what would have been the start of the Trial By Fire tour, and I could see him doing it again. Even if he has the best of intentions, he could start up with Journey, and not be able to finish it.

If they can get Perry and Pineda to agree to share the vocals on a tour, then absolutely give it a shot!

A reunion with one final song or two, yes, to see him sing along with a karaoke singer no.

Something will happen though. Journey is getting ready to kick off another tour with Arnel Pineda at the helm. Solid as rock. :)

Re-reading "Castles Burning" will remind us all... There will never be Perry reunion. For one simple reason. He can't sing the catalog. He was unable to sing it in 1991 for god's sake at the Bill Graham tribute, and that was 23 years ago. Game over kids.

Except that Perry went on to sing the JRNY catalog on the FTLOSM tour in 94/95. Just go on YouTube, some nights he was quite brilliant. Others, a little rough.
I think at this point, the only foreseeable option is to do a one-off show in Vegas, film it for a dvd. Being inducted into the RnR HoF may be the kick in the nuts that Perry needs. I'm not holding my breath tho.

Back in '05, we all jumped on that bandwagon ... full steam ahead when Tapegate broke. Wow.. 10 yrs! later ... certainly, a pipe dream now. Maybe, an appearance at the RnRHOF (if they ever make it) .. like at the HWOF.

And, if there is ever 1 song together, no self-respecting SP fan is gonna want AP anywhere close by. Sorry, that's the way it is.
I agree with Scarab on that. Neither of us ever dis-respected Arnel here, so you can call me a retard, too, Stvo!!! :x

Kinda like when a coach is asked about taking another job, and he denies everything, loves it where he is, says he'll be here forever, etc. Then the next day, he's announced as the other school's new coach.

There is no such thing as 'the final word' and 'never'.
