Neal Schön fans can check out the new video for "What You Want" below. The smoking new track/video is taken from the forthcoming jazz and blues-inspired hard rock studio album, SO U, and includes vocals by bassist Marco Mendoza and Schön, as well as drummer Deen Castronovo. SO U features Schön along with Mendoza (Black Star Riders, Ted Nugent, Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy) and Castronovo (Journey, Ozzy Osbourne, Steve Vai, Hardline) splitting vocal and writing duties, with many of the tracks also co-written by Night Ranger/Damn Yankee's songwriter, singer and bassist Jack Blades.

I've had enough of the ballads for the most part. I can live with one or maybe two ballads on an album of theirs. But they should Rock overall. Lots of long and heavy solos from Neal is exactly what I do want from the band overall anymore.

Another Raised On Radio is NOT what I want from them.

I love Jonathan Cain's talent, and think that he's a good guy. But I'm sick of him pushing for more ballads and other light rock all of the time.

NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Sounds like the tune was built around one riff. But it is a cool riff and the song has a slight psychedelic funky vibe. JSS would've killed on this. The video, however, has typical low rent Frontiers bargain basement production values. The album sounds promising. I like the diversity.

If you can't afford to do both, then God bless you, sir.

I think this is going to be a very interesting release and I am much looking forward to it. 8)

I like the riff too, but I think the solo is a little lack luster. A guitar solo in every song is a bit outdated these days, so if you are going to do one, it out to be something standout. Otherwise it is only following the out of print rule book which states "thou shalt have guitar solo." After listening to this (which I think is actually not too bad) I don't think Neal sings lead on any of the tracks himself. He does a lot of BG vocals here, and it sounds pretty much like Schon always does, so I don't think he changed his style and sounds like Mendoza as I previously thought.

You all are crazy. "Serenity" sounds great. Admittedly, nothing else leaped out at me instantly, but it did.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

Serenity from Neal's new album. I'm 2:37 into it and it already sounds better than anything off Eclipse.

With it lyrical focus on finding your bliss and living in happiness, 'Serenity" would actually made a great track on Eclipse.
The tune is a little more Zen than the usual BGTY/Change for the Better type track.
