Journey... for the love of GOD....

Postby G.I.Jim » Mon May 05, 2014 7:46 am

Please send Arnel packing and move Deen to lead vocals. After hearing the recently released "Serenity" with Schon and Deen... DAMN!! THAT is how Journey should sound. I have all but lost ALL interest in this band and it's all due to Arnel. Can't get over the accent and the stage performances. I've seen them 4 times with Augeri and twice with Arnel. He's a nice guy, but he has completely diminished my interest in the band. If they get Smith back on drums and move Deen to the front... NOW you would have an amazing Journey!!! :D

I know it won't happen, but I would so be on board with the band again. This new song sounds freaking amazing.

Deen's great....a Journey cd with both Arnel AND Deen singing would be even better.

Amen.

Doing one or two songs per show does not indicate a voice that could do it for an entire show let alone an entire tour.
I like Deen's vocals a lot. Great singer. However, speaking of pronunciation, on "Serenity"- the way Deen pronounces "Sar-ahnn-ahhhh- tay" drives me crazy. But I like the song quite a bit.

so

there.

NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I will say, Deen's vocals certainly do capture the feel and sound of the old Journey than Arnel, and there's really no debating that.
There's more to singing than just the ability to hit a note. Lots of singers can sing Journey songs and hit every note...but they don't sound anywhere near like the song is supposed to sound.

I saw one of the last Augeri concerts during "tapegate" and Deen was singing more than he wasn't. I know what you're saying. He does have a thin voice and would have a hard time pulling off an entire concert. With that said though, they could cut out some of the DD and add 5 to 6 new songs from the new cd. Won't happen and I'm living in a fantasy world. I know that. With as good as "Serenity" sounds though, just imagine what it would sound like with Smith on drums and Cain on some keys. THAT is what I'm missing. I would pay DAMN good money to hear an album of that. :D

Deen has good range with a little more rasp and a throaty overall sound to his voice. He's like ROR Perry crossed with Infinity Perry. I played "A Better Life" for a friend when Generations came out, and as soon as it ended, he commented on how much better the Perry era stuff was compared to new material. WRONG, fool! But I guess it just goes to show that Deen sounds more Perry-ish than either SA or Arnel.

Lol!! I was actually thinking the same thing. I'd take that any day over hearing Arnel try to pronounce English words. And that's not a racial slur, so don't anybody here get your panties in a wad! It's a fact. He has a hard time pronouncing our words. It's understandable but I can't listen to my favorite childhood songs get butchered and unless they make a "Change For The Better" We'll just have to go our "Separate Ways".

Just as SP patterned his singing after Sam Cooke, so has Deen taken on the Perry vocal nuances. Just listen to his take on the old Perry songs ... uncanny.

I believe Deen has stated before that he's a drummer first so keep hanging on to that pipe dream.

The point I was making is that the Arnel haters constantly whine about his pronunciation but Deen/Perry get a free pass. I LIKE Serenity. I LIKE Deen, btw.

Again, it's impossible to compare Perry's pronounciation with Arnel's. Come on...

The reason Perry got a pass is because he's STEVEMOTHAFUCKINGPERRY! He wrote and co-wrote the songs that we grew up to and his Perry"isms" are what made him who is was. Comparing Arnel's lack of being ABLE to pronounce words without an Asian accent to Perry's stretching out of words is ridiculous. That's like comparing a dirt bike to a jet. If you support him, I'm happy for you. I can't do that.

Prime example. "Shreet Light..... People". There are so many things he does to distort the words here. "Everybody wants to frill". This song is peppered with stuff like that. I can't stand it!
