"Look Into The Future Live" Album New Release

Postby Final Frontiers » Sun Jun 15, 2014 5:58 pm

I was doing my weekly downloads on Freegal and saw this new listing for Journey. It wasn't here before. I'm getting "Can Do" tonight. It's a live version of "Look Into The Future" from Firefly Entertainment. Anybody ever heard of this? It's from 2012.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/live- ... d648282968

Why did it come out on Firefly Entertainment and not Columbia/Sony?

Track Listing:

1. Mystery Mountain
2. In My Lonely Feeling
3. Look Into The Future
4. On A Saturday Night
5.Midnight Dreamer
6. Of A Lifetime
7. You're On Your Own
8. It's All Too Much
9. In The Morning Day

I bought this on Amazon awhile ago. Not sure who gets the money, but I think it is a pretty good live pre-Perry performance. Not the best recording quality, but enjoyable. Maybe it is a bootleg. I'm not sure how someone could get away with selling a bootleg of Amazon or i-tunes, though.

Amazon and Itunes are both so big that there's all kinds of shenanigans going on there with copyright infringement. Nobody can police it all. Someone's using The Storm's name and Gregg Rolie's info but are selling their music on Google Play and Itunes. IOffer sells all kinds of Journey and other bands bootlegs. The Storm I can understand no one caring about (not Interscope at least someone should tell Gregg Rolie so he can file a compliant)- but someone booting Journey on Itunes is shocking  . I wish I could get some of Gregg Rolie's solo work. I'd love to download "Deep Blue Sea". Did he ever tour for his solo work? Or make a solo music video?

I saw him live at a New Years show at the Cow Palace in SF many years ago performing the songs from his first solo release. Special guests included Schon, Carabello, and Shrieve. Night Ranger was the headliner. Also on the bill was Eddie Money. I think this was the night he discovered "I Wanna Go Back" because Rollie performed it that night. Not long after Money had a huge hit. Rolie played a few shows around the Bay Area I think, but not sure about a major tour.

Yes, GR did several solo music videos. Remember, videos were big in the '80s ... everybody was doing it ... they get shown on MTV (24-hr play on loop). I got a 2-dvd compilation from a fan trade some years ago that include practically all videos ever made by Journey and Journey members on solo (SP, Neal (w/J Hamner), Gregg solo and w/Storm)... so many I have never seen, didn't know existed. I was never one of those people hooked on MTV (I had a life outside). The Picture quality on these dvds very uneven ... obviously, originally recorded/taped off the TV ... spliced together on vhs ... years later someone transferred to dvd's. From that, copied over and over again, as it gets shared from fan to fan. Wonder if you can find any of these on YT.

First of all, I rechecked the suspicious "The Storm" page. Gregg Rolie's info is gone. But someone else is still using the name. Maybe that's why Chalfant has to use "Kevin Chalfant & The Storm". Still doesn't explain why the music's not availabe for download.

My internet fu is strong. But I have never come across any other music videos for Gregg Rolie that weren't Santana, Journey, and that one Storm one. It would help if I knew what the titles of the songs were, but his stuff is usually just performances. Annie- if you knew how to- you could totally post those on You Tube. If you remember, was Gregg just singing in these videos or does he act? I'm dying to know if his videos were considered as bad as Journey's were :? . Once he got out from behind his wall of sound, he proved he had the moves to be a decent frontman- at least in "She Makes Me Feel Alright". More of that please!

Here's a post about "Look Into The Future Live" from Wheel In The Sky Journey blog. This guy basically exposes Firefly Entertainment and the CD as bootlegs. The info on the inside is incorrect, not even matching the picture.

http://ronsouth.blogspot.com/2014/06/jo ... lease.html

The bootleggers have sure become bold if they can do it right in Sony/Columbia's face with one of their biggest acts  .

What other boots does Firefly have?

Think this is the audio. Not bad for a bootleg from the 70s.

FF ... you just had to get me to go digging ... trouble with these fan compilation of videos ... no rhyme and reason ... all over the place. Here's what I found mixed in with all the Journey and SP/solo videos that were compiled from MTV showings:

Gregg - 2 solo - Young Love (from his 1st (self-titled) album) and The Hands of Time (from his 2nd? album Gringo) ... yes, he was acting in full video vignette ... Also, 2 w/The Storm - Show Me the Way (KC doing his best SP personna and the whole band standing in a dark forest in windStorm ...lol) and Wasting Time.

For all the talk about SP out for commercial glory with his solo effort, and Neal was just playing for fun with his solo stuff, Neal sure wanted to do videos to promote his albums. 2 w/JHammer - I'm Talking to You and No More Lies. 1 solo - I'll Cover You (Randy Jackson playing bass). Take Me Down w/Hardline. There were 2 songs with HSAS in concert footage that made it on MTV - Missing You and Whiter Shade of Pale (SammyH outstanding vocalist/performer... I can see why he is so revered on VanHalen, etc.). I know there were also Bad English videos done at the time, but I didn't come across any in my collection of boots.

Also, re Hardline, I know there were more than 1 video done. I recall seeing another one -- Hot Cherie was the song. Same video like Taking Me Down. Everybody just prancing around playing/singing...no story.

There is NO information anywhere that I can find so far that mentions "Young Love" or "The Hands Of Time". No videos, no clips, no pictures, no mention of their existence period. I don't think either one of them were very popular. USA Network's video show "Night Flight" might've shown it- they sometimes showed videos that weren't in heavy rotation on MTV. I had no idea that The Storm made a second music video. Anybody here ever see "Wasting Time"? I can't find any mention of it anywhere ever too. Is the old man in the bowler hat in it? Does Chalfant actually manage to get a close up this time  :?: I'm shocked that no one else here knows about this stuff.

If you don't mind, could you describe the videos for us :?: For archival purposes  This stuff shouldn't be forgotten. More importantly, it'll give people more to talk about and more stuff to ask at a meet and greet or in an interview. I'll never get to do any of that myself. But who knows.

FF … you seemed so interested that I had to go watch my Dvd again just to get to those videos at the end. These videos were shown on MTV2 (logo stamped on upper corner) which I guess is MTV Classics station showing old 70s & 80s stuff. Whoever, even captured the VJ talking about “Journey currently on tour with new lead singer Steve Augeri.” So, this is late ‘90s – early 2000’s time. SP got mentioned quite a bit, too, as when one of his videos gets introduced. So, you asked about Gregg’s 2 videos:

Young Love (from the Album Gregg Rolie) As title suggests, it’s a love triangle -- 2 teenaged Boys enamoured with 1 Girl…GR is father (mouthing the song) and forever chasing after son as Boy continuously stalking Girl…running over to her house banging on the door …parks at the movie theatre …catches her holding hands with other Boy…2 of them gets into fight…Son gets knocked down…GR glares at the other Boy…Son picks himself off the ground…they leave in car…The End.

The Hands of Time (from the Album Gringo) Another love story – GR sings at the piano…interspersed with him singing on the couch watching homemade movies of voluptuous girl in bathing suit swimming/walking on the beach, sitting in/driving a convertible…forlorn face…love lost? Fades away…as Gregg finishes singing the song.

There was only 1 Storm video on my dvd…the Show Me the Way song…sinister looking old man in dark glasses carrying umbrella…girl in black dress twirling in the storm...KC belting out the song with all his might (veins in neck sticking out and long hair flying every which way)…the whole band dressed in long coats playing their hearts out in dark forest amid rain/wind Storm … lol.

Wasting Time and I’m Talking To You were from Schon & Hammer’s 1st album Untold Passions. Videos looked to be taped back-to-back/simple, lowkey production. Neal mouthing song/playing his guitar/JH on keytar and drums…a few spotlights set behind them.

No More Lies from S&H 2nd album (didn’t catch the title). This video has story (good one). Neal looked absolutely adorable & hunky wearing tank-top white undershirt, skin-tight bluejeans, and cowboy boots. He’s laying on the floor, looks out the window, sees his g/f getting out of man’s car (JH), she walks into the apartment, tries to kiss him, Neal turns away (still singing the song and acting very agitated), he pushes her out the door, she goes back down to the street, JH sees her but drives away, she’s left standing in the middle of the street (back to the camera), scene fades way. This Neal video plays out eerily like SP’s story of how he came about writing the L-T-S song. Same scenario.

Tried to write down everything for you, FF. Are any of these videos on YT? I know how to copy and send (email) cd tracks. Videos, whole different animal for me. Hope this is enough for you.

Thanks a lot Annie. You're the BEST :D :!: :!: :!:

The Schon-Hammer videos are on You Tube. The Gregg Rolie ones are not. You shocked me when you said that they were on MTV2 from the '90s. They must've gone wayyyyy back into the archives to find those. Like someone who worked there ACTUALLY knew something about music and references. I thought for sure they had been recorded back in the '80s when they were released.

That Neal... he sure is a hair chameleon. Every video of him from the '70s to today he has a different hairstyle. It's like he's in the witness protection program  . The '70s fro with the mustache, the geri curl, the ringlets, whatever he's got going on now. Someone should ask him what products he uses.

Gregg Rolie playing the Dad in "Young Love" sheesh  . No wonder it didn't hit. Pat Benatar played a teenage runaway in "Love's A Battlefield" and she was 30 at the time. I've heard the song- so I know he couldn't really play the kid. But as the star- the video should've been about HIM. Not a bunch of little punk kids.

As for "The Hands Of Time", he should've been in the video with the girl. Don't be a spectator Gregg participate!!!! This advice is 30 years too late.

The Storm video cracks me up. Seriously, nobody in the band gets a close up :!: Compare it to ANY Journey video where the camera gets an extreme close up of Steve Perry's face. It's not like everybody in The Storm's a hideous troll that shouldn't be allowed above ground. But there's literally a forest of trees between the camera and Kevin Chalfant. For a video that being bought and paid for to promote them that tells me that the director couldn't find a way to make ANY of them look attractive. I don't know why Ross and Gregg got plenty of close ups in Journey.

Haha..you're funny, FF :D ... I just think they were going for the double ententre thing ... the Storm performing in a storm. Yeah, those guys stuck in a dark forest...wind/sleek blowing ...they're supposed to be playing through all this mayhem? Some of these videos in the 80s are so cheesy. Just ask the Journey guys. They hated doing videos ... came right out and said "no videos" during ROR.

See now, this is where I'm confused. Why would the band say that they don't like making videos and quit completely for ROR. Yet, Neal made a whole bunch with Jan Hammer and Steve made a trilogy for "Street Talk" and more for "Strange Medicine"? Maybe Ross and Smitty didn't like making videos.

Their 1st foray into making (acting for) "concept" videos was the 3 Frontiers songs (SW/CR/ATF). Prior to that, any videos of them were shown as concert performances or just rehearsing. AFter the 3 cheesy videos, SP purposely went over-to-top w/the Oh Sherrie video. It was done as a spoof ... he spoke in a interview afterwards that "most music videos that come out now are all smoke and mirror, chains and leather."

In the Rockline '86 radio show, Steve spoke (quite defiantly) that there were all kinds of pressure for the band to make videos, but they refused to. He said each song in ROR deserved to stand on its own ...wanted the fan, as he/she is listening to the song, to form his/her own interpretation (story) ... didn't want "some silly producer's idea of what the song is about", mucking it up. Taking Steve's lead, Jon interjected that Journey "was lucky we don't have to make videos to promote our songs, anymore. Many groups don't have that luxury or their label forces it on them." He said thank you to all the fans for making Journey so successful and popular.

Well, we know in retrospect, ROR was a tumultuous time for the Band ... SP dealt with/took on a lot of stress (demons)...mostly of his own making. Quite obvious, listening to this Rockline show, Steve was taking the lead on everything ...they let him and deferred to him. In the end, something had to give (break). Years later, SP talked about this dark period.... in his apology song ..."lost in my insanity, escaping to survive ...." (Anyway - FTLOSM).
