Question about Raised on Radio

Maybe somebody can help me on this. Maybe I am way off, but when Journey was recording Raised on Radio, my understanding is they recorded some songs, and then some people were kicked out of the band, and they started over with recording new songs in a new direction. If this is true, do they have the previous songs on a shelf somewhere?

There are probably no songs because Sony would have released them on the Box Set. But maybe there was a reason they didn't. I am just grasping at straws here! But it would be cool if there were some unreleased gems from the "golden era" of Journey.

It's my understanding that the studio musicians re-recorded the same songs that were initially recorded with Smitty and Ross. I'm not sure how many songs this includes, what they were, or what songs were written after Steve and Ross were shit-canned. I do agree that it might be interesting to hear if the original recordings were substantially different than the ones on the record, or if in fact there were some songs the five "Journey guys" recorded that were not released or redone with the studio cats.

Smitty may have only recorded the two tracks he played on ROR. As for the label releasing the material? IIRC Journey owns their material and Neal, Jon and Perry would all have to agree. So, wouldn't happen....

I remember in a interview they said they had several songs recorded (one that sounded more like a scorpions song).
Then they (Steve ) decided to go in a new direction and make it more poppy/R&B (like his solo album).
Be Good To Yourself and WCTNGOF are the only "classic sound" songs, but the two unreleased songs that were rerecorded could be two of the "original songs" With a Tear and Into Your Arms. I really wish Perry would have provided vocals because the two songs were great.

I wonder if Steve Smith recorded those tracks before or after he was fired? My guess is after unless they removed Valorys bass and re-recorded. I wonder if the two tracks Somebody Somewhere (could be wrong on that title) Couldn't find the one on youtube (and Let it rock you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JRfVoiTg64 demos were from that album.

TIME3 had only the instrumental With A Tear, but there is a vocal version. May just be studio ad lips by SP and not actual written lyrics, though. Perry fans have the demo in our collection of rare songs for years. Here is a fan’s upload on yt:

It is STILL astonishing to me that Smitty and Ross were allowed to be jettisoned at the height of the band's fame. If I recall, Perry originally said he was only interested in replacing them for the studio recording of ROR... then somehow, it carried over and he wanted to them out altogether. Anyone know the story there?

From what I've been told, Droubay had been let go by Survivor at that time due to a financial dispute. With Ellis it may have partially been over money? But he also had issues with alcohol abuse.

I really wish that Droubay and Ellis had been on the Too Hot To Sleep album!
