CALGARY – American rock band Journey is coming to Calgary this summer.

The “Don’t Stop Believin’” singers will be headlining The Stampede Roundup at Fort Calgary on Wednesday, July 8th.

The annual event is Calgary’s largest corporate Stampede party and draws a crowd of around 17,000 people.

Last year, The Stampede Roundup raised $225,000 for the Rotary Club of Calgary, making it one of the most philanthropic events in the city.

“For 20 years corporate Calgary has embraced this event as its own, raising significant funds for The Rotary Club of Calgary – it really does represent the best of the Stampede spirit,” says Executive Producer Caitlin Boyle.

Other bands set to perform include Collective Soul and Big Wreck.

Tickets for the private corporate party will be made available for event sponsors on Monday, April 27th at 10 a.m.

For a minute there, I'd thought the band had officially changed names.

That giant wagon wheel in the sky will be turning above Fort Calgary for one of the biggest shows of this summer’s Stampede Week.

American rock group Journey will be the headline act and mark the 20th anniversary of the Stampede Roundup at Fort Calgary July 8, the Rotary Club of Calgary announced Monday.

Also on the bill at the musical charity fundraising barbecue for more than 17,000 people will be American rockers Collective Soul and Big Wreck.

It’s a lineup fit for the event’s 20th year, said its Executive Producer Caitlin Boyle.

“We’re thrilled to announce a special lineup for a very special anniversary,” she said.

“For 20 years, corporate Calgary has embraced this event as its own, raising significant funds for the Rotary Club of Calgary — it really does represent the best of the Stampede spirit.”

Journey is best know for the their hits in the 1970s and 1980s like Don’t Stop Believing, Who’s Sorry Now  and Wheel in the Sky.

Collective Soul made it big in the 1990s with hits like Smashing Young Man and Heavy.

Big Wreck hails form the same era as Collective Soul, making their mark with singles such as The Oaf and Blown Wide Open.

Money raised by the concert will support building the Rotary Club’s Rotary/Mattaway Greenway Project whose green space will encircle Calgary spanning 138 km.

Last year, with Vancouver rocker Bryan Adams headlining, the private corporate show raised $225,000 for the initiative.

Tickets go on sale April 27 at 10 a.m. to guest associated with private sponsors.

They will be coming here on July 30. Wasn't quite sure if I would go, but they have never come this close to me before, so in the end, I just couldn't resist.....I have my tickets. Although, after reading some of your comments, I'm not expecting too much. Still, it will be nice to see them in person.
