Hey, I know SP isn't coming back, so I'll be happy to get SS . :P

Neal should take Arnel and make the kind of album he really wants to make!

He did. It's called "Eclipse."

If you take away all the keyboard from Eclipse, and add more guitar, you would have the kind of album Neal really wants. :D

Personally, I still don't see him coming back for a full tour with Journey...I just don't think he has the interest in playing a classic rock gig anymore. But one thing that you always know...is that you never know!

IF he were to come back, it wouldn't be the same Steve Smith that played with them in the past...that's for sure.

A nice payday tends to make people a lot more interested in things they might not otherwise be.

I think it would be great for Smith to get back into Rock for a year or two! I think that as great as he was the first time around with Journey, he's a far better drummer now. It would be great to hear him in Journey one more time on both a new album and tour.

Also, Smith has accomplished all there is to accomplish in Jazz. He's a legend in that world. It would help his name recognition even more if he were to reestablish himself in the Rock world. When he was done with the Journey tour, he might even find that he's re-energized to go back into his Jazz bands again? Taking a break from Jazz might make him appreciate it even more down the road?

Yeah..I don't think he's doing what he does to accomplish a set goal. It's his craft. If you watch his videos and read his interviews, it's all about experimentation and education. He plays all around the world, and is always reaching new heights on his playing. That's obviously his love and passion. We would all love to see him in Journey again, but rejoining the group probably wouldn't give him any more name recognition. And I doubt that playing the dirty dozen for three months straight would energize his jazz playing any more that a large cup of coffee would. But we'll see...

SS is an accommodating guy, gets along with everybody. Plus, he did say in the Vortex (Modern Drummer) interview that he very much enjoyed playing with Neal again. Yeah, with those open dates on his schedule that someone posted above, I could totally see SS re-joining for a short tour. Imagine the extra buzz surrounding the announcement, not to mention size-able pay days for him .... not that that would be his sole motivation for playing with Journey again.

Deen will be missed: not only is he an exceptional singer, beefing up the background vox and giving the crowd gems like Mother, Father and Still They Ride, but I think he's a highly underrated drummer. Dude is skilled as hell. Not to mention the energy he gave the live shows.

But that said, SS is even more skilled on drums and I think the crowd would really appreciate his return as a critical part of the golden era lineup.

Hopefully he comes back for at least one solid tour.

Maybe Randy Jackson is coming back and Ross is retiring.
