Wow, only three shows!!! Pretty cool Journey gets to play Madison Square Garden. I don't even think in the height of their career they ever played there.

True, though both Frontiers and Raised on Radio tours played Nassau Coliseum and Meadowlands arenas - which in those days were venues arguably just as large.

I still think albums should be ten songs.

I still think albums should be ten songs. They should break this up into two albums. Take the ten best and release them now as one album. Then they only need four more songs with the other six for a second album.

A friend of mine always felt the way that you do.
I will take as many songs as they'll give me, providing it's a great band with great songs. To me, it's kind of inexcusable these days to only put 10 songs on an album. Part of the reason that they used to only put 10 songs on an album was because cassette tapes and 8-track tapes could only hold so much tape. Or records could only fit so many songs on them.
With CD's these days, they can easily fit 12 to 16 songs on an album. And if it's a great band with great songs, then I do want 15 or 16 songs on an album.
WalrusOct9 wrote:That only works if you have 12-16 really good songs at one time. This rarely happens with normal rock bands. And it weakens the impact of the actual great songs if there's a filler track between most of them. I think the restrictions of the vinyl format actually did a lot of bands an unintentional favor. I mean, even Hysteria had 3-4 tracks on side 2 which really weren't that great, and few people would miss if they had been b-sides or something.
Especially now that CD's no longer really matter, it's so easy to release music digitally that you can make a killer 40-minute album, and then have a separate release of leftover tracks for the hardcore fans without diluting the listening experience.
I'll be curious to hear whatever the reunited Santana puts out, but I guarantee there won't be more than 10 really necessary tracks here. Those first three albums were so great in part because they only had 40 minutes to work with, so they made it count.
