April 19, 2016  

Caught up with Neal Schon to talk about the awesome new Santana project "Santana IV" (with the lineup from Santana 3...including Carlos, Greg Rolle and Neal). We also talk a little Journey -- and address Steve Perry as well.

Listen to Interview ...

I'm a little confused on what Neal meant about Smith's playing...is he not playing hard enough for them? He seems to be playing very relaxed and casually, definitely a vibe that he's picked up over the years from focusing on his jazz playing.

Watching Smitty play, he seems relaxed and in control. Seen he brought back the 'gong' like
he had when he played with Ponty.
If you watch at the end of some vid's, he lets out a big sigh of relief then smiles while looking
at NS. If he's nervous, lol he hides it well.

I agree with Neal. Feed him a steak, lol... that was fucking funny.

Yeah I think Smitty is still playing largely from his jazz sensibilities. He needs to find his rock legs again. He'll get there with time if he wants to. Still love what he's doing. The instrumentals sound like they're supposed to with Smitty on the kit.
