Just listened to the performance. Was pretty good. Arnel was a little rough in Lights and Don’t Stop Believin’ but solid overall. He’s not young anymore and has been doing this for over a decade so losing some of his range isn’t a surprise. It’s not like he sounds like Paul Stanley or David Coverdale.

AWYWI was a vocal trainwreck. DSB high notes were pure cringe. Everything else ranged from passable to good.

In this article Schon was quoted that he hopes Randy Jackson is ready for the upcoming Vegas residency.

And he also confirms AP sang in the original key. So. Fucking. Dumb.

Not sure why he's even mentioning that (maybe he read it here?).

Y'know, Meat Loaf used to brag all the time that Bat Out Of Hell was in the original key. Ok - great. But if you can't pull it off, who gives a shit?

As if Randy is learning the set while in physical therapy and will just show up at one of the shows???

Look, it's pretty obvious fans are not being told the whole story....

Marco has been promoting the Vegas dates on social media. He is obviously contracted to be there - and is not going anywhere anytime soon.

In another interview, NS said Randy wasn't expected to tour until '22. Which completely contradicts the fact that Randy was promoting Lollapalooza a few months ago and was expressing his eagerness to perform.

In another previous interview, Jon or Neal said they asked Randy to be in the band and then Randy selected Narada as the drummer. Now Narada isn't even the main drummer.

Ultimately, who the fuck knows what's going on. Just enjoy that the band exists and new music (in some form) is coming.

Would having Randy Jackson on stage with them even make a difference at this point? Fans would have that moment of "hey look, it's Randy Jackson!" but after that moment fades he's the bass player. He wouldn't be taking any spotlight. Marco's holding it down well, and him and Deen have an established rhythm section happening. You can't keep interchanging parts of the rhythm section and expect consistency.

Speaking only as myself as a fan, I would love to see Randy there just because of his pre-existing history (After the Fall, Raised on Radio, Bolton) with Schon/Cain. Also, he is on the new album.

Walden and Jackson have collaborated often. So it was a natural pairing. Now? Who tf knows. At least we have them on the cd!

I agree with you on all of this. J/W and M/C are two great, proven rhythm sections. It's a gamble to expect the four of them to play consistent if each of the four are constant moving parts. You gotta lock in on something at some point.

He also answered a FB question about whether Narada and Randy would be in Vegas for the Residency. His answer was basically 'remains to be seen' "they are both on the mend".

Deen goes under the knife himself in a day or two for his back. Everybody is on the mend!

At this point, I assume Randy and Narada will be on the album and will not tour.

In an aging band and in the COVID era maybe this is just planned depth. There are contingencies for every role except guitar. Even Cain has a backup… and Arnel basically does with Derlekta or DeenO.

That EVH Wolfgang is bad ass. You can really hear everything, not muddy at all like Neal can sometimes sound during the live shows.

My first two thoughts when they announced Randy and Narada:

1) that is one hell of a rhythm section
2) these guys are putting aside their cushy studio/Hollywood gigs to tour amphitheaters with Journey?

We’ll see if the second one actually happens

I had my doubts the lineup would ever actually materialize. It was announced in such a half-assed way - just by Neal on Twitter social media. No real press release or anything. At the very least we have Randy and Narada on new music, so that is exciting.

The announcement was half-assed, but the announcement did get a lot of coverage. Even People Magazine ran with it.

I had similar thoughts. I seriously doubt Randy would subject himself to the rigors and inconveniences of being on the road with a rock band. He became a household name. He’s bigger than Journey in a lot of ways.

No denying that.

Alot of recent activity in Journeyland these days (ex. feuding with Cain, feuding with Live Nation, Ross/Smitty firing etc) gets clicks. That being said, I don't think any of it is just a ploy for attention. I think Neal has legitimate grievances in many cases.
