Could he join in something like they did for Bill Graham? I doubt it'll be a big outdoor show like that one, but there should be something in a theatre at least. (Do the Bammies give life time awards?)

Perry wouldn't have had his start, way back when, if HH didn't bring John Villanueva's "Portuguese cousin" along to replace Robert Fleischman. We all know the story.

Again, many will ask, what will Steve Perry's level of participation be?

later~

Another question: Will Steve Perry take part in the Herbie Herbert documentary? Even just a few sentences?

Has Perry even bothered to comment on Herbie's passing?

Would it make it any less heartfelt if it wasn't a public announcement? Has Smith? Valory? Rolie? Dunbar?

I thought about them too but thought Dunbar may have hard feelings about being let go. I don't think Ross is active in social media and haven't seen anything from Gregg in a very long time on any subject. But Perry was the subject someone else had brought up.

From the Journey camp, Kevin C mentioned it and of course, so did Neal. All I saw. Oh, and JSS.

Also, if Herbie Herbert put together the greatest hits album instead of Steve Perry, I imagine it would have rocked a lot more.
Herbie knew that Journey was more than just ballads. Journey was a rock band, too.

Herbie's Journey's Greatest Hits
1. Don't Stop Believ'n
2. Only The Young
3. (Unknown Rocker from Freedom)
4. Wheel In The Sky
5. Chain Reaction
6. Any Way You Want It
7. Ask The Lonely
8. Who's Cryin' Now
9. Feeling That Way/Anytime
10. Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)
11. Stone In Love
12. Lights
13. Lovin', Touchin, Squeezin
14. Open Arms
15. Girl Can't Help It
16. Send Her My Love
17. Escape
18. Be Good To Yourself

I think Herbie would have done whatever he felt would have sold the most copies. In fact, if he were able to comment on it, I bet he would have laughed and asked "Why would I change anything? GH has sold incredibly well...15x platinum, MUCH more than any other Journey album. There is no reason to change it."

Also, I'm not sure why you think Perry put together the GH album. I know he had his say in GHLive and probably GH2...but I don't think he dictated what is on GH.

I would have liked to have heard Herbies comments on the box set - THAT was a HUGE missed opportunity. It was OK, but a LOT of other things could have been released on it. It should have been a 4 CD set. I'd like to see Journey rethink this and release an collectors edition that included rarities from all eras of Journey. It could easily be a 6 disk set, or even more. Sell it for $100/set...and I would buy it if it was done right.

Ross wasn't very active but him and his wife were very very close to HH.

I agree with you Monker. HH just might have said that! It sells 5k copies A DAY! Been on the charts for years. No way it would have done that if it was more rock oriented. Frontiers (a WAY better album than Escape IMO) didn't do as well as Escape. Escape is Diamond. Frontiers is NOT...yet.

I WISH the bad mouthing of Steve for ROR would stop. Enough already. Jeez.

I know what Journey was doing with the Greatest Hits album. They were keeping some of their best songs off the album so people had to buy the other studio albums. Stone In Love belongs on the Greatest Hit album, but Journey wanted to force people to buy Escape album. Feeling That Way/Anytime belongs on the Greatest Hit album, but Journey wanted to force people to buy Infinity album. Chain Reaction belongs on the Greatest Hit album, but Journey wanted to force people to buy Frontiers album.
It makes sense to hold back great songs, but then it is NOT really a Greatest Hits album!

Now, people will say Stone in Love and Chain Reaction weren't really hit songs and didn't do well on Billboard Top 100, but if we are going to use that as the basis. Here would be your Journey Greatest Hits.

1. When You Love A Woman (Reached #12)
2. I'll Be Alright Without You (Reached #14)
3. Who's Crying Now (Reached #4)
4. Lovin', Touchin' Squeezin' (Reached #16)
5. Open Arms (Reached #2)
6. Separate Ways (Reached #8)
7. Don't Stop Believin (Reached #9)
8. Only The Young (Reached #9)
9. Send Her My Love (Reached #23)
10. Any Way You Want It (Reached #23)
11. Still They Ride (Reached #19)
12. Suzanne (Reached #17)
13. After The Fall (Reached #23)
14. Be Good To Yourself (Reached #9)
15. Girl Can't Help It (Reached #17)
16. Faithfully (Reached #12)
Yes! There would be no Wheel in the Sky and no Lights. Is that what we really want on a Greatest Hits album? No. So, put Stone in Love, Chain Reaction and Feeling That Way/Anytime on there, too!

My only argument would be with Chain Reaction as it was not officially released as a single....

"City of the Angels" should ALWAYS follow LTS. I remember being in NC and hearing LTS and not CotA, and was like "What is this? That is not right." GH should have kept those two together. The local classic rock station has ALWAYS played it that way and I have never heard LTS without it.

And, he toured with Journey, and Jonathan has a writing credit and composer credit on Mr. Big's debut album.

And Neal wrote some songs with him that he recorded solo, with Neal playing on at least one.
