Good for him for speaking out. Wish more would. But right auto-tune is now it's feeding an entire industry. Here to stay.

Completely agree with him, auto-tune is taking the talent and skill out of being a singer. It's making good singers lazy and helping bad singers fool everybody. Unfortunately record companies can use auto-tune to make music for less money and with lesser talent so it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Steve Perry is correct. He didn't say it, but in the future the computers will play all the instruments and the computers will do all the singing. It will be 100% perfect musically, but it will be cold and sterile and lacking of any emotions. Computer music will be the worst thing ever.

Jason Scheff, ex Chicago singer and bass guitarist, is a great singer, and really like his music. But his last cd was auto tuned, I have listened to it twice, and refuse to go back. Killed to soul of his voice.

Hold on. I just remembered that way back when they were making Raised on Radio, Steve Perry pulled out a drum machine and wanted the drums to sound like that for the album. Does this mean Perry is fine with technology for other instruments in the band, but NOT for his instrument, his voice? He needs to be consistent and be against all of this tinkering with the soul of the music.

I think that's how Smitty got axed, he couldn't play like the drum machine tracks.

Yes Smitty was fired , because at that time he could not play to a click.
That also explains why the ROR drumming is so bloody boring.
I have played these songs on keys in 4 Journey tributes and every time I’m reminded of how robotic the drumming is .
