1 new song in the set

Don’t Be Down On Me Baby is the only new song they played on the opening night of the Freedom tour. They must even realize what a flop The Way We Used To Be is.

So glad to see “Girl Can’t Help It” in the list! Agreed about “…Used to Be,” hopefully the new album will have some better cuts…

Yeah you’re right. I saw live debut and made the wrong conclusion. Forgot it’s on TBF. So they played literally zero Freedom material. Wow. But looking at it now, it doesn’t even appear that they actually played it.

Neal’s out here hyping a new double album, and the newest song they’re playing on the tour supposedly named after the album is When You Love A Woman

Not great on the new music front. Terrific crowd and stage setup. Mixed bag review: https://www.post-gazette.com/ae/music/2 ... 2202220107

They played The Way We Use To Be according to one review, not Don't Be Down On Me Baby:

https://www.post-gazette.com/ae/music/2 ... 2202220107

Not only are people on Twitter bitching about the sound mix, but so too are professional reviewers. Goddammit Neal.

I remember a lot of sound complaints from the Eclipse tour as well. Wonder if it’s being done purposely to conceal failing voices. Seems like they definitely did play The Way We Used To Be. They selected the one song from the supposed new record that they know for sure pretty much nobody likes. Great call there!

Toto’s set looks to be as bad as Journey’s. Good luck hearing any of the great music from their most recent albums .

That does not sound good. Arnel missing his vocal cues and at times hidden under the mix, the drums come in with too much bass and a boomy sound. The first review above where it says they are bassy and louder than Metalica is probably accurate.

Journey has always performed too loud...but it seems they have made it worse.

WYLAW is in every set. It was towards the end in the beginning of the tour, now earlier in the set. IBAWY and Suzanne swapped. Wow big switch up there. Sorry I missed where they changed one unremarkable song for another. Where’s the new stuff?

Slipped in Chain Reaction last night.

I think they’ve played 23 different songs so far. Better than 2015-2019 but us hardcore always want even more variety.

It seems all the songs they perform now are from either Greatest Hits Volume One or Volume Two except the one new song, of course. So maybe, they can work Patiently into the set at some point.

Gotta say... Deen's voice - very impressive to be sounding that good at his age and from behind the kit (not to mention the hard living he used to do).

Can someone explain to me how After All These Years is not in the set list? It’s a song that was a minor hit off their best selling album since 1996. I think When You Love A Woman is a good song, but at least throw Arnel’s tenure as the lead vocalist a bone.

The band right now with the playlist and lineup is basically the best Journey tribute band in the world.

I'd be down to hear more from Revelation or Eclipse. Bums me out that I never got to hear Resonate live.

Such a dumb comment lmao. With the exception of Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin', which is a shit song, the rest of the tunes played live belong to Neal and Jon as much as Perry. And since there's two of them...

When did Cain get a writing credit for Lights, Wheel In the Sky, and Anyway You Want It?

40% of the current band was with them at their height and 90% of the audience doesn’t know their names. They basically play a set list that consists of songs written 40 years ago. They have a lead vocalist who has been with them for almost 15 years and they realistically don’t play any of the songs they recorded with him. They’re not at a Foreigner level of being a tribute band, but they’re getting closer.

He doesn't, Neal does. Neal, who is still with the band.

Words have definitions and you're off the mark with "tribute band." Journey isn't a tribute band for sticking to the hits. Pandering, conservative, cautious, etc.? Maybe. Plenty of adjectives and pejoratives that may apply, but "tribute band" isn't one of them.

Perry/Schon/Cain were the creative nucleus of the band at its commercial and creative height. 2/3s of that nucleus still exists and their right to play a catalog that they created in part or in majority still applies.

Journey has always been mixed terribly. It is way more evident when they tour with other bands. When I have seen Journey in the past, Night Ranger and Def Leppard blew them out of the water
