Journey's largest Concert Crowd?

Postby Journey/Survivor » Thu May 26, 2022 1:10 pm

Does anyone know what the largest crowd that Journey ever played for was when Journey were the headlining band?

Even if you don't know what the #1 largest one was, do you know what some of the largest crowds were that they played for as the headlining band?

I saw them at the Rose Bowl at the final Escape show. If I remember right, there were about 90,000 people there. Openers were Triumph, Blue Oyster Cult, and Aldo Nova. July 2nd, 1982.

And it was a damn good show.

Philly's JFK Stadium seating capacity was around 90,000+ when the opened for the Stones in '81 (two nights) and headlined in '83.

On the ROR tour, they sold out the Brendan Byrne Arena in NJ for 4 nights. (20,000 seating capacity)

The largest crowds were probably some of the festivals they had. The "Day On the Green" or maybe the Bill Graham tribute concert. I don't know if they could be considered "headliner" though.

I did a quick Google and 300,000 people were at the Bill Graham tribute concert. The "Day On the Green" were around 50,000.

DAMN!
I didn't realize the Bill Graham crowd was th@t big.
In terms of largest crowd watching them perform live would have to be the collective audience around the world when they played Vina del Mar in Chile, would it not?
Estimates were somewhere around 1.5 billion IIRC.
