Tootsie's and Legends are the historic "honky tonks" on Broadway. Those and similar music bars on Broadway are very (too) crowded on the weekends. Mostly country music but talented performers. Most bands like to throw in a rock tune or two during their set. Kid Rock's, also on Broadway, has a great house band that plays mostly classic rock. Printer's Alley has more eclectic music, some blues, a few blocks uphill from Broadway. While I'm not a big country music fan, the country music museum and Johnny Cash museum were interesting to see. The Ryman Auditorium, the former site of the Grand Ole Opry country music radio show and small venue where bands like Alter Bridge, Extreme and Mr Big play these days. It's worth checking out even if you're not going to a show, its adjacent to Tootsies and Legends.
